Clayton Kershaw was born on Saturday, March 19, 1988, in Dallas, Texas. Kershaw was 20 years old when he broke into the major leagues on May 25, 2008, with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Clayton Kershaw stats, height, weight, career totals, schools, positions, and more historical research are in the Baseball Almanac. Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"In 1988, Orel surgery was all the rage in Southern California. An unimposing, slender 6-foot-3 pitcher with a scholarly appearance, Orel Hershiser used all of his tools to drill his way into baseball history with arguably the greatest season on the mound by a Dodger not named Sandy Koufax. Clayton Kershaw -- a lefty most often associated with Koufax for alliterative and aesthetic reasons -- is positioned to do for Dodgers Nation what Hershiser achieved a quarter-century ago: create a magical ending to a storybook season. So far, so great." - Spencer, Lyle. MLB Staff Writer. Kershaw cementing place in Dodgers history. 30 August 2013.

Did you know that when Clayton Kershaw signed his seven-year $215 million dollar contract on January 15, 2014, with the Los Angeles Dodgers it was the largest contract ever given to a baseball pitcher in Major League history (#2, $180 million, Justin Verlander)? Too easy:

Did you know that Clayton Kershaw made his Major League debut on May 25, 2008, wearing #54, but one game later, on May 30, 2008, he was wearing #22? Mark Sweeney had the number, but gave it to Kershaw who wanted to wear it in honor of his boyhood idol, first baseman Will Clark.

Did you know that Clayton Kershaw was the National League ERA Champion in 2011 (2.28 ERA / #1 in Top 25), the N.L. ERA Champion in 2012 (2.53 ERA / #1 in Top 25), the N.L. ERA Champion in 2013 (1.83 / #1 in Top 25) and the N.L. ERA Champion in 2014 (1.77 / #1 in Top 25)? Four-consecutive seasons leading the senior circuit! Did you know only one pitcher in Major League history has led their league in earned run average five consecutive years and it was also a pitcher from Dodgers, his name was Sandy Koufax?

Did you know that when Clayton Kershaw reached the 2,000 career strikeouts plateau on June 2, 2017, he was the third fastest pitcher to reach the mark by innings? Kershaw did it in 1,836 innings, beating out Nolan Ryan (1,874 IP), behind only Pedro Martinez (1,715.1 IP) and Randy Johnson (1,734 IP).

In 2011, Clayton Kershaw fashioned one of the most dominating seasons in Major League history, leading all National League (NL) pitchers in ERA (Top 25), wins (Top 25), and strikeouts (Top 25) - a rare (21st in NL) Triple Crown season. Kersh also appeared in his first All-Star Game in 2011, won his first Gold Glove, and was awarded his first Cy Young Award!
