My headlights are kind of foggy, and it looks like more than half of the fog is on the inside surface of the plastic. Is there any reason I can't just take the lights apart and polish the insides with Plastix (I think it's maguires)? I will probably paint and clear the lights while I am in there.

Also, is there any kind of anti-glare coating on the interior plastic, or can I shine that up with Plastix as well?

Posted December 9, 2011 It is unlikely that any hazing is inside the headlight. The true test will be to clean up the exterior with a lens cleaning kit and see how it looks. My bet is that will solve the problem. To protect it from future hazing you can cover the outside with clear bra. Skidude Enthusiast Posted December 9, 2011

Posted December 9, 2011 I cleaned the exterior with the plastix and it helped a lot, but I can clearly see the oxidation on the inside of the lens. I am mostly wondering if there is any special coating I will damage on the inside by cleaning it with the same compound. MiniStiGuy Grand Master Posted December 10, 2011

it is pretty rare to oxidize on the inside unless you have opened the lights and/or are burning the inside by running HID's in a high wattage. Even then though it is not normal to have the inside haze. FYI though you can clean them with whatever you want if you open them up. Be sure to let them dry though or they will film up again once the headlight bulb is turned on.

Your issue might be that they are getting moisture inside and so it condenses then drips down and condenses again etc... this will cause a film to form on the inside of the lens. To clean this issue you just need some simple glass cleaner.

Posted December 12, 2011 The inside of my outback lights are foggy and I need to open them up and dry them out. Do we have to bake them to get them open? MiniStiGuy Grand Master Posted December 12, 2011

Posted December 12, 2011 I've never taken apart outlook fogs but in order to get the sealant to let loose it needs to be heated up so either bake or heat gun them.

Posted December 13, 2011 On all of my other cars I lucked out and never had to bake anything but looks I have just moved up to the baking league! I'll look around and see what I need to do to get these cleaned up.
