Deactivate my account
You can deactivate your Robinhood joint and individual investing accounts in the app or on web classic.
Alternatively, you can transfer your individual, joint investing or IRA account to an outside brokerage company.
After you deactivate or transfer your account, you can continue to view your account records.
NoteIf you deactivate a managed account or a joint account, you can't reactivate it. All other accounts can be reactivated. Coming back to Robinhood has details.
Deactivate an individual account
Deactivate an individual account
To deactivate a self-directed taxable, individual investing account:
- Close all your positions and confirm you:
- Have no pending deposits
- Have no upcoming dividends, cash sweep payments, or Stock Lending payments (must wait until these are paid before you can close your account)
- Are no longer enrolled in the Stock Lending or Brokerage cash sweep programs
- Have no skipped or outstanding round-up orders
- Select Account (person icon) → in the app, Menu (3 bars)
- Select Settings
- Select Deactivate Account
- Select the account you’d like to close
- Follow the on-screen instructions to close out anything outstanding
- Confirm you have a $0 balance, and then confirm the deactivation request
You can deactivate one or more of your individual investing accounts by following the steps in this section. However, you won’t be able to reactivate any additional, self-directed individual accounts after you deactivate them. You can only reactivate your first or primary investing account. Also if you deactivate your first or primary investing account, you’ll lose IPO Access and can’t trade futures or crypto.
Keep in mindIf you deactivate an individual account while you’re a co-owner on an active joint investing account, you may lose access to features in your joint account, such as Robinhood Gold, Stock lending, linking new bank accounts or debit cards, or Brokerage cash sweep program features.

Close a managed account
Before closing a managed account, keep in mind that you can’t reactivate or recreate the same managed account type that you close. However, you can open a new managed account of a different type (e.g., Roth or Traditional).
If you want to close your account managed by Robinhood Strategies, refer to Managed account closure for details.
Transfer your account
Transfer your account
Instead of closing your account positions, you can request to transfer your Robinhood IRA (ACATS transfer only), individual investing, Robinhood Strategies managed investing, and/or joint investing accounts to another brokerage company:
- Choose where you’d like to transfer your account
- Submit a request to your new brokerage to have your assets transferred out of Robinhood. If you transfer all of your assets out, we’ll automatically close your Robinhood account for you.
