Closest Airport To Grand Canyon
Maybe your like
When booking a flight to visit the Grand Canyon, the short of it is that you've got options. If you're visiting Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim) you'll probably want to book a flight to Phoenix (PHX) or even better Flagstaff (FLG). Flying into Phoenix will be cheaper with more flights as PHX is an international airport. Flagstaff is closer to the Grand Canyon and a much easier airport to navigate. There is an airport near the entrance of Grand Canyon National Park, but it is used for private or charter planes. There are no commercial flights to this airport.
Grand Canyon West is technically the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, but it is not part of Grand Canyon National Park. This is where visitors can explore the Grand Canyon Skywalk and easily visit Hoover Dam. For these attractions, you'll want to fly into Las Vegas (LAS). There are benefits to flying into all three of these cities. Expand the airport sections below to explore the details of each airport so you can pick the right city and airport to fly into depending on your trip goals.
Your Plans Will Be Affected by the Airport You Choose
The choice of airport significantly impacts your Grand Canyon vacation plans. For those seeking to save money and time on travel, flying into airports like Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) or Las Vegas McCarran (LAS) could be a strategic move. You'll be closer to the South Rim when flying into Phoenix, and closer to the West Rim when flying into Las Vegas. Make sure the rest of your desired travel itinerary is considered before booking any flights.
Phoenix AirportPhoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
Most Grand Canyon visitors fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport because it is the closest major international airport to the South Rim, the most visited part of the National Park; just over 3.5 hours' drive (231 miles). Sky Harbor is a busy airport welcoming flights and airlines from all over the world. From here, you can rent a car or even take a quick 20-minute jumper flight to Flagstaff (FLG). 231 miles to the South Rim; 3 hours 35 minutes drive from Phoenix to Grand Canyon South Rim
Las Vegas AirportLas Vegas McCarran International Airport, Nevada (LAS)
Flying into Las Vegas and visiting the West Rim of the Grand Canyon is quickly becoming the easiest way to see Grand Canyon's West Rim, which is the home of the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Mind you, this is NOT part of Grand Canyon National Park. But many helicopter tours, high-end vehicle tours, and river trips depart from Las Vegas. You can fly a commercial plane into Las Vegas from almost any city across the globe making Las Vegas increasingly more popular of a Grand Canyon hub than Arizona. McCarran offers nonstop scheduled service to Canada, Germany, Mexico, the Philippines, South Korea, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and many others. 121 miles to the West Rim; 2 hours 30 minutes drive from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon West 278 miles to the South Rim; 4 hours 27 minutes drive from Las Vegas to the South Rim
Flagstaff AirportFlagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG)
Flagstaff Airport is the closest small commercial airport to Grand Canyon National Park South Rim, just a 92-minute scenic drive via three distinct routes. Fly American Airlines connecting through Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) or Dallas - Ft. Worth (DFW) into Flagstaff. These flights are increasing in frequency and are worth it when it comes to extreme convenience. Flagstaff's small airport is friendly, charming, easy to navigate, simple to collect baggage, and even rent a car.
Bonus: If you happen to be flying from Phoenix, try to get a window seat on the west side of the plane (left side going to Flagstaff, right side if flying to Phoenix from Flagstaff). This seat gives you an amazing view of Sedona as the plane stays pretty low over for the 25+ minute flight and is like a Sedona air tour in its own right. 81 miles; 1 hour 32 minutes drive from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon South Rim (Main Entrance)
Prescott AirportPrescott Ernest A. Love Field (PRC)
Prescott's central Arizona location and close driving proximity to Phoenix, Sedona, Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon make it a logical home base for any Arizona vacation. And with limited commercial airline service courtesy of Great Lake Airlines, it's feasible to make Prescott your starting and ending airport destination, particularly if you're flying in or connecting from Los Angeles, Denver, Moab, Page or Kingman. 129 miles; 2 hours 25 minutes drive from Prescott to the South Rim
Sedona AirportSedona Airport (KSEZ)
Please note that no commercial airlines fly in and out of Sedona. Fly private or charter aircraft into Sedona. Sedona Airport has been called "The Premier Southwest Resort Destination Airport" and "America's Most Scenic Airport." Established in 1955, Sedona Airport is located on top of a mountain five hundred feet above Sedona. 119 miles; 2 hours 19 mintues drive from Sedona to the South Rim
Grand Canyon AirportGrand Canyon Airport (GCN)
Fly private or charter aircraft into Grand Canyon Airport near Tusayan at the entrance to the South Rim. 8 miles; 15 minute drive from Grand Canyon/Tusayan to the South Rim
