Wouldn’t it be great to if you could organise a Teams meeting, but have others help you with ‘organiser’ type tasks? This is now available, but has some limitations.

Short version:Organisers can assign the co-organiser meeting role to up to 10 specific people they invite to their meeting. Co-organisers will be granted most of the capabilities of the organiser in the meeting, including being able to access & modify the meeting options for the meeting. Available now for many, but will be as late as mid-July for others.

Details:Once this feature has been enabled, a “Choose co-organisers” meeting option will be available. The default value for this option is “None.” This new option will look and feel be similar to when “Specific people” are selected as presenters for the meeting. The meeting organiser can click on the selector box to open a dropdown menu where they can choose from the list of qualified people who have been invited to the meeting.

To qualify for the co-organiser role, an invitee must be using an account that is on the same tenant as the organiser’s account (so, your colleagues). Organisers will be able to assign the co-organiser role to up to 10 people.

Co-organisers will be displayed as additional organisers on the meeting roster, and they will have most of the capabilities of an organiser in the meeting. Co-organisers can do the following:

  • Access and change meeting options
  • Bypass the lobby
  • Admit people from the lobby during a meeting
  • Lock the meeting
  • Present content
  • Change another participant’s meeting role
  • End the meeting for all

Co-organisers cannot do the following:

  • Create & manage breakout rooms (before you despair, read this: Teams Breakout Rooms Presenter support | Super Simple 365)
  • View & download attendance reports
  • Manage the meeting recording
  • Edit the meeting invitation
  • Remove or change the Organiser role

The “Only me” selection for the “Who can present?” meeting option will be updated to reflect that this will apply to “Only me and co-organisers.”

The “Only me” selection for the “Who can bypass the lobby?” meeting option will be updated to reflect that this will apply to “Only me and co-organisers.”

Usage of the co-organiser role for a meeting is optional. If you choose not to use the co-organiser feature, there will be no change.

There is nothing you need to do. The “Choose co-organisers” meeting option will appear automatically on the meeting options page when the feature has rolled out.

Availability:Due late November to early December 2021 mid to late May to mid-June 2022. Available now for many, but will be as late as mid-July for others.

Check status:This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 81391.
