Coaching legend Ken Purcell, who has led 12 state championships, is set to give an insight of all-things athletics and coaching to Lamar County student-athletes and coaches, which stems from when he was first involved in Texas high school football in 1962 – almost 60 years of football knowledge.
In the book, “All I need to know I learned from my Texas High School Football coach,’ Purcell said, “Texas high school football is the greatest game on earth – not just for the excitement of the game, but for the valuable lessons taught through the game.”
Born in Dalhart, Texas, Purcell has been involved with high school athletics for more than 40 years as a head football coach and an executive director of athletics. He has coached in Tahoka, Plano, Allen and Denton. Purcell was inducted into the Texas High School Athletic Directors “Hall of Honor” in 2009.
Purcell ended his career with 12 rings, nine championship rings, two hall of honors rings and one THSCA All-Star Ring.
After retirement, Purcell was recruited to do “Fox Football Friday” by Fox Sports SW.
Purcell’s inspirational speech to Lamar County’s youth is free to attend, and Paris Wildcat Stadium is at 2255 S. Collegiate Dr., just beside Paris High School.
