RebGershon R My 2010 Titanium 2.0L X Sport has been off the road, parked up on my driveway on SORN since the beginning of April as nowhere to go due to Covid, lockdowns, shielding, etc! No insurance, tax and the MOT expired 1 month ago. I have kept running it around the block a few times every 3-4 weeks since to keep things from seizing up and all ok until 2 weeks ago when I had to move the car and noticed my front o/s tyre was flat-so I re-inflated it. I then noticed the air bag warning light was illuminated (goes off after start up then re-illuminates). Apart from a slight bit of moisture on the back window there's been no water ingress and I ran the car around the block for 20 minutes to make sure it was warmed up thoroughly. I've checked F18 in the central fuse box and this was OK. I've checked all the connectors under the front seats, all have been unplugged and reconnected, wiring looks OK. I've checked all the function buttons on the steering wheel today while stationery. All appear to work except I wasn't able to see if Cruise Control would set as the car wasn't moving but the speed limiter was settable so all the buttons seem to work. I bought the Tunnelrat ELM327 USB model scanner as my ebay Bluetooth cheapy, although would work with the Torque app but wouldn't display the modules required, wouldn't talk to Forscan. Here's what was displayed: Module RCM Code B0001:1A-AF Code: B0001 - Driver Frontal Stage 1 Deployment Control Additional Fault Symptom: - Circuit Resistance Below Threshold Status: - DTC Present at Time of Request - Malfunction Indicator Lamp is On for this DTC Module: Restraint Control Module What does the displayed code mean in terms of identifying where the fault lies? Does 'Circuit Resistance Below Threshold' indicate a possible short? What would cause the warning light to suddenly illuminate and is there a simple fix as I understand that the car will not pass it's MOT when I decide to put it back on the road and I don't want any nasty repair bills! What should be my next step? All suggestions/help welcome (I'm in N. Manchester if anyone can hands on assist with social distancing). #1 · Nov 19, 2020 My 2010 Titanium 2.0L X Sport has been off the road, parked up on my driveway on SORN since the beginning of April as nowhere to go due to Covid, lockdowns, shielding, etc! My car has just started showing exactly the same issue and error. #3 · Feb 17, 2021 Take a look at this video A chap diagnosing the same code as you're getting. There's quite a bit to it. On a separate note, you mention that you have no tax, the car is currently SORNed, you have no insurance and that your MoT has expired but you have been taking the car around the block every 3-4 weeks to keep it in good order. Be careful. You are taking a big risk in doing so. If caught, you could find yourself in a lot of bother with the law and could even have your car confiscated. #4 · Dec 24, 2021 Thanks Antman for posting your thread. Although its been many months since your posting, thanks for the response and the video-it was very helpful but wasn't my exact problem. In reply to hcanning, I did find the problem. Antman's youtube video helped me trace the wiring in the steering column and I connected a 2 ohm resistor across the terminals in the steering column and found I cleared the fault. There was no break in continuity between the column terminals and the air bag connector inside the steering wheel so I knew the clock spring wasn't broken. Connecting the resistor across the steering wheel connect immediately cleared the fault. I assumed, that as the car had been little used since going on SORN as mentioned in the 1st post of the thread, there could have been some dampness in the car that could possibly have led to a little corrosion of either the pins of the airbag connector and/or inside the connector sockets in the steering wheel. I ran over the pins with a fine file and, being a retired Dentist, used a root canal file to clean the inside of the socket after which all was hunky dory and remained that way until I had the car mot'd at the end of April. However, I have been abroad since the beginning of October until a week ago. My son had taken the car out a couple of times but the windows were very damp inside and the previous problem has returned. I got my scanner out today and got the same fault code as last year, took the air bag out and connected the 2 ohm resistor and the fault has gone. I will clean the male and female airbag contacts on Sunday and hopefully that'll solve the problem. Maybe I'll put a tiny amount of copper grease on as well to maintain the electrical continuity and put a small silica gel packet (from the lateral flow test blocks) in the airbag housing to remove any potential moisture but if that doesn't solve the problem then maybe the airbag itself needs replacing or I just leave the resistor in place for the next MOT! Hope this helps anyone experiencing a similar issue. Insert Quotes Post Reply
