Code Blue Alert Information

Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management will declare a Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert during periods of extremely cold weather. Code Blue is a multi-agency effort to reduce hypothermia deaths during the winter months by protecting the vulnerable unsheltered population. A Code Blue Alert enables Monmouth County authorities to make sheltering arrangements for the unsheltered.

A Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert may be declared if temperatures fall below freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit or below).

Need help, or know someone that needs help?

During regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm) individuals in need should:

  • Call the Monmouth County Division of Social Services at 732-431-6000 extension 4613 to be screened for placement or to be referred to a warming center.
  • During daytime hours, unsheltered individuals can be referred to the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission Warming Center (701 Memorial Drive) when temperatures are below 32 degrees.

On weekends and after hours:

  • During daytime hours, unsheltered individuals can be referred to the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission Warming Center (701 Memorial Drive) when temperatures are below 32 degrees.
  • During the evening, unsheltered individuals can be referred to Trinity Church Warming Center (503 Asbury Avenue) between the hours of 7:00pm and 6:30am. Unsheltered folks can just show up, no referral or check in is needed.
  • Families can call 211 and request CODE Blue placement. If assistance with transportation is needed, contact APPD at 732-774-1300.

Residents can also call APPD at 732-774-1300 to report specific concerns about vulnerable neighbors during Code Blue Extreme Cold Alerts.

Please call 911 if you are having a cold-related emergency.
