My best friend made a movie.

He read a script he loved in a workshop seven years ago and never forgot about it. He'd make a point to check up on the rights every six months or so, until the powers that be finally let him take a crack at putting it together.

For the past three years, this film has been his whole life. He built it from the ground up, operating on his own without any sort of net. He attached to the cast, among others, Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe and Janeane Garofalo. He found a director -- Richard Wong, supremely talented -- and independent financing himself. Franklin Leonard and The Black List later came on as co-producers…

"Operation copulation is a go."

Loved this. For sure one of the best films I've seen centered around losing one's virginity. Through trials and tribulations on their road trip to a brothel in Montréal, this really made me root for these guys. Not only for them to make it there, but to also achieve their goals of getting laid. It does a great job of highlighting the needs of people with disabilities in a comedic but also sensitive manner. Made me laugh along the way and it's a feel-good film I'd totally watch again.

Well intentioned, funny and poignant in parts, but why oh why oh why have able bodied actors play these central parts?

Just sweet and funny enough to get past the fact that it didn't cast people with disabilities. But seriously, next time they should.

There are a lot of movies about bros trying to get laid, and probably just as many that make a joke out of disabled characters. And then there is this rare gem of a film. Come As You Are is a surprisingly touching comedy that addresses some sensitive issues with class. This is a film about friendship, love, loss, and ultimately dignity. A truly excellent script, wonderfully directed and with an absolutely stella cast - discovering this one was a real treat.

Legitimately funny. Was not expecting all the feels.

I’m genuinely surprised I haven’t heard a soul talk about this film. I know it’s rather small and doesn’t have large names attached, but this is one of the best I’ve seen all year. Come As You Are is not a Nirvana documentary. It’s a witty and insightful look at disability, friendship, and independence. Three disabled friends go on a road trip to Canada to visit a specialized brothel. If that doesn’t get your attention I don’t know what will. The chemistry between the four leads are undeniable and carries the movie far beyond the road trip tropes. For the first time in a while I can say that a comedy is one of my favorites of the year so far. Don’t miss this one this year.

This movie was fantastic! This is how you make a movie with a little bit of raunchiness that is also packed to the brim with heart and humor. This movie had me laughing constantly all while it tried to drive me to tears. I loved the characters and the crazy journey they took so it was easy to be invested in this film. This is a movie that can make you feel sad, but when it's over, you'll feel better for having seen it. The movie imparts life lessons along with some dirty humor and I loved every second of it. This movie will make you smile and it gets a serious recommendation from me.

There are very few ways to do a film about disabilities right. This film gets that.
