This page covers the Cougar location in RDR2, as well as how to get a Perfect Cougar Pelt. The Cougar is a large animal in Red Dead Redemption 2 and you'll most likely find one near forests. You'll need a Perfect Cougar Pelt for part of the Legend of the East Satchel.

"Cougars are native to the states of New Austin, West Elizabeth, and remote forested sections of New Hanover. As carnivores, they prey on deer, elk, moose, and mountain goats. The easiest way to take down a cougar of this size is by either using a Bow with Poison Arrows or a rifle. Their fangs can be used for crafting and their meat can be used as food."

You can find the Cougar in in plains just south of Benedict Point, which is south of Tumbleweed in the west half of the game’s map. Above is the map of the original Red Dead Redemption.

Cougars may also be found west of Black Bone Forest, which is north of Owanjila Lake. You can also use these areas to help farm the Master Hunter Challenge 6.

How Kill the Cougar in Red Dead 2 for a Perfect Cougar Pelt

To get a perfect pelt you'll have to find a Perfect Cougar and use the right weapons to kill it.

Cougars like to hunt alone. You may find them sunning on a rock or crouched low in the brush. Keep your eyes peeled, as their coat allows them to blend into the arid landscape. You can get a clean, perfect kill with a rifle with any ammo, besides explosives or the Bow with poison arrows.

If you are hunting cougars for the Master Hunter Challenge 6, you will have to use a Bow with Poison Arrows. To craft Poison Arrows, you'll need an Arrow (1), an Oleander Sage (1), and a Flight Feather (1).

Another helpful tool will be Cover Scent, so you do not become the prey. When you successfully kill a cougar, leave the area and camp out for a day or so to allow the hunter cat to respond.

Upon killing a pristine Cougar perfectly, you'll earn a Perfect Cougar Pelt, a Cougar Fang, and and big game meat.

Perfect Cougar Pelt Uses

The Perfect Cougar Pelt can be used along with a Perfect Deer Pelt and a Perfect Wolf Pelt to construct the Legend of the East Satchel, a Camp Upgrade.
