Crops, Soils, and Natural Resources

Southeast Kansas is a highly diverse area. A strong gradient of rainfall occurs moving from the eastern county of Cherokee, which receives average annual rainfall of around 45", to the western counties of Kingman and Harper, with about 25" of rainfall each year. Moving from the northern counties of Lyon, Osage, Franklin and Miami to the southern-most counties along the Oklahoma border is a strong temperature gradient. These gradients impact the timing of field operations. More information on current conditions is available at the links below.
