Cross-stitch and other textiles framing

After pouring your heart and hours into a cross-stitch piece, it is a good idea to have it properly framed so that you can enjoy your hard work displayed on your wall. Aside from cross-stitch, we also have experience in framing other textiles such as silk embroidery, silk scarf, carpet, tapestry, sports jersey and so on. We have even framed a full kimono and a go-kart racing suit! When you bring your piece down, we will work together with you to create a frame design that will accentuate your piece so it looks stunning for years to come.

Framing methods

Depending on the design and intricacy of the piece, we may propose direct framing where the frame goes directly around the piece, or to frame with a matboard. For less intricate pieces, you can consider the more economical direct framing without matboard.

For more intricate pieces, we recommend adding a matboard or silk border to your frame as it will create a visual breathing space that will make your piece more aesthetically pleasing. We have a wide range of coloured matboards to choose from or you can even go for a more luxurious design using silk border and inner fillet.

Conservation

For delicate silk embroidery, or valuable and collectible textile pieces, we employ pin mounting techniques that are fully reversible. Nickel-plated pins are used carefully to mount these textiles on acid-free foamcore. We do not use any invasive materials such as tapes, glue or staples. This is to ensure that your piece would not be damaged during the framing process and can be taken out in the future. Our priority is long-term preservation of your treasured piece and we will give it the treatment it deserves.

UV light can cause colours to fade in objects or fabrics overtime. They should never be placed in direct sunlight, as even indoor lighting has UV which can cause fading in the long run. To protect the colours from fading, we also offer these glazing options with UV protection:

  • Plexiglas® UV100 (99.7% UV protection, shatter resistant)
  • TruVue Conservation Clear® Glass (99% UV protection)
  • Artglass AR 99 Water White (99% UV protection, anti-reflective)
  • Artglass Lifetime Acrylic / TruVue Optium Museum Acrylic® (99% UV protection, anti-reflective, abrasion resistant, anti-static, shatter resistant)
