What are Curses in The Sims 4?
Curses are the worst part about being a Spellcaster and something you need to be mindful of when practicing magic with your Sim. While casting Spells and brewing Potions, your Sim can end up being inflicted with a negative effect if their action ends in failure - and it's not pretty.
Your Sim can be affected by up to three Curses at any one time, whether that's having everyone be angry at them, having their gains increased, or being haunted by a Night Wraith, just to name a few. And they're permanent too, so don't go thinking a Curse will wear off after a few hours like a moodlet because it won't. Thankfully, there are a couple of ways to get rid of a Curse for good, but more on this below.
The higher Spellcaster Rank your Sim is, the less likely they'll be inflicted by a Curse because their magical actions have more chance of success. It is also wise not to make them cast any Spells or brew any Potions that are a higher Rank than them to avoid any unfortunate backfiring. If they have a Spellcaster Bloodline, their chance of being Cursed is reduced.
The Hexproof Spellcaster Perk is something that you will want to unlock for your Sim as soon as possible as it makes them immune to Curses altogether. To learn how to do this, take a look at the Spellcaster Perks section of our Spellcasters guide.

How to Get Rid of a Curse
To get rid of a Curse on your Sim, there are two things you can do: use a Potion of Curse Cleansing or have them use the Decursify Spell.
The Potion of Curse Cleansing can be made at a Cauldron for 1 Apple, 1 Citrine, 1 Angelfish, and 1 Mandrake. All of these ingredients can either be harvested or purchased from the Potion Shop in Caster's Alley. To learn the recipe, you need to be at the Acolyte Spellcaster Rank and Experiment at a Cauldron.
Decursify is learned at the Master Spellcaster Rank, either via Tome, Dueling For Knowledge, or Practicing Untamed Magic.
