Maybe he just felt overwhelmed by life's challanges, couldn't see a way out and didn't know where to turn for help. BTW, There are people around here who were close to Danny and it's kind of a sticky subject. T

His mom used to ( or maybe still does ) sell his CD's and other misc items, she was a really a sweet lady and gave me an autograpoh poster of him from " Cruising Deuces " (s?) Whatever the cause, it was such a waste. To me " Elmira Street" showcases all his talents, - Rockabilly, Red Neck Jazz, blues. If you don't hacve that CD - get it. weelie

I'd never consider asking her about it, but the next time we talk I'm going to ask her if by any chance she might have one of Dad's old guitars lying around that I might look upon and maybe even play a riff or two. Now that would send shivers up my spine. Holly's a really nice girl and is also working on some of the re-releases and hopefully some new video. I sometimes think that being blessed with a super-human talent carries a price tag... skiraly017

With the releases of 88 Elmira St. and Crusin' Dueces, Danny felt pressure to be "the greatest unknown guitarist". The record company wanted him touring all the time and recording music that was commerically viable. Also from what Jay told me, Danny supposedly suffered a mini-stroke one morning leaving him temporarily paralyzed on his left side. This, along with the pressure of being famous and other issues was apparently to much to bear. Again, I am relaying what was told to me by Jay. collinsman

I think that's correct, his mom did mention a small stroke, along with the worry with cancer that ( if memory serves me ) his dad died from. Weelie - thanks for the welcome.. Old Doc Skinner

I think this is a great response to this question. I've been around here a while back when this question really ruffled some people's feathers. Although time won't answer this question, time does seem to help people cope. I don't pretend to have a meaningful answer to this question, as I do not know anyone personally that knew Danny, like some folks around here do. But I did have a family member do this same thing earlier this year. Unless the person leaves a note (my family member didn't), there are no real answers. Only those that we settle on after the fact. The pastor the resided over my family member's funeral made the following remark, in a respectful manner, "Unfortunately, he chose a permanent solution to a temperory problem." T

You are both correct. Billy's sudden death in 1993 was a huge blow to Danny both personally & professionally. I am reading, "Unfinished Business, by Ralph Heibutzki and I highly recommend the book if you want a deeper look into Danny's life and career. Billy's death and Danny's reaction is mentioned in the book. And that's all I will say because I was simply searching for info on Jay (his guitar tech) and came across this. I pray that no one is offended by my reply. I revere Danny as a GREAT guitar player and his loss was very tragic. Danny, you are missed by all of us who have been WOW!'ed by your playing (myself) and those who personally knew you. JCSouthpawtele
