The demise of Darryl's at the corner of Hillsborough Street and Oberlin Road surprised employees.

The restaurant was doing well financially but its parent firm, Houlihan's, has been struggling with bankruptcy.

Thad Eure Jr. and Charles Winston opened the restaurant and started the Darryl's chain 33 years ago.
