Introduction

David Copperfield is an American professional magician with an estimated net worth of $1 Billion.

Before Wealth & Fame

Growing up in New Jersey, David Copperfield was destined to become a professional magician from an early age. He began learning magic at the age of seven, and by twelve, he was accepted into the Society of American Magicians. At the time, Copperfield was the youngest person in history to be accepted into the organization. When he turned sixteen, David began teaching a magic course at New York University — a remarkable feat for a teenager.

For the past decade or so, David Copperfield has been ranked among the world’s highest-paid celebrities, typically earning over $60 million per year. The majority of his income has come from his magic shows at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

However, Copperfield also earns a significant income from his collection of several private islands in the Bahamas, known as Musha Cay. Musha Cay comprises 700 acres of land and charges a minimum of $57,000 per night to rent accommodation for twelve people. With a five-night minimum stay, each party pays at least $285,000 during their stay.

In 2020, Copperfield earned significantly less than he would in a typical year, due to shutdowns caused by COVID-19. From 2015 to 2020, David Copperfield earned approximately $356.5 million from all income sources.

Condominium Lawsuit

In August 2024, the board for the Galleria, a condominium complex located in Manhattan, New York City, filed a lawsuit against David Copperfield concerning the property he owns within the building. According to reports, Copperfield had first purchased the 15,000-square-foot condo for $7.4 million in 1997.

However, in 2015, a significant water leak occurred within the building, damaging homes on thirty stories, and the source… Copperfield’s condo. According to multiple reports, David had allegedly fired all the staff responsible for the condo’s maintenance and neglected to fix any issues more severe than basic cosmetics. The 2015 water leak was reportedly due to Copperfield’s rooftop pool bursting, which had allegedly used illegal plastic plumbing.

As per the lawsuit, the condominium board of the Galleria is reportedly seeking a total $7.5 million in damages, listing an estimated figure of between $2.5 million and $3 million just to fix the core damage. However, considering the possibility of structural issues to the building, they’re demanding the $7.5 million figure to ensure coverage.

The last update on the case was in August 2024, and since then, there’s no apparent word on its status.

Art Collection

Copperfield owns one of the largest collections of magic memorabilia. His collection contains more than 150,000 items and books, including precious items from Harry Houdini, Georges Méliès, and the father of modern magic, Robert-Houdin. It is housed in a 40,000-square-foot warehouse several miles off the Las Vegas Strip.

Real Estate

His real estate portfolio is worth between $200 million and $300 million. Copperfield owns 11 islands in the Bahamas, where he has built a lavish resort that costs more than $50,000 per night to rent. He also owns a massive $18 million mansion in Nevada and a four-floor apartment in New York City.

Philanthropy

Copperfield has supported various charities and founded Project Magic, a rehabilitation program for disabled patients. The American Occupational Therapy Association has credited the program, which is in use in over 1,100 hospitals.
