Earnings History

In 2020, David Dobrik was ranked the ninth-highest-paid creator on YouTube, with an estimated $15.5 million in annual earnings. However, information suggests that numerous controversies and legal issues have led to Dobrik being dropped by many of his sponsors. In fact, among those brands were Dollar Shave Club, DoorDash, EA Sports, General Mills, and Hello Fresh, which all ended their partnerships with the creator amidst the sexual assault allegations surrounding the Vlog Squad in 2021.

As a result, Dobrik hasn’t been listed on any of the “Forbes Top Creators” lists in recent years, and his income undoubtedly dropped due to the canceled partnerships.

Vine Career

It all began on Vine for David Dobrik, the Slavic YouTuber, one of the most successful early online creators. His videos consisted of 6-second clips featuring pranks, skits, and comedic commentary, which quickly gathered a dedicated following.

In 2013, Dobrik uploaded his first Vine video and began collaborating with popular Viners like Liza Koshy, Jason Nash, Gabbie Hanna, and Zane & Heath. As Vine gained popularity, Dobrik relocated to Los Angeles in 2015, a significant career move. This was also the year Dobrik launched his self-titled YouTube channel, and 2016 brought about the creation of his second channel. His second channel featured blooper reels, challenge videos, and sponsorship deals with companies such as HelloFresh, SeatGeek, EA Sports, Audible, and Facebook.

Dispo, an app he launched on IOS in December 2019, was the most downloaded free app on the App Store, ahead of Disney+ and Instagram. The app was rebranded and relaunched as Dispo in 2021, expanding from a single-player camera to the complete social networking app it is today.

YouTube Channels

Dobrik is the head of the YouTube ensemble The Vlog Squad, who mainly feature in his vlogs and comprises rotating selections of his friend group. In 2019, Dobrik’s channel was the fifth-most viewed channel on YouTube, with 2.4 billion views.

By July 2022, the channel had 19 million subscribers and 7.1 billion views. His high-energy videos gained fans. The channel consisted of videos of inside jokes, pranks, former Vine and YouTube celebrities, and real celebrities. Paper Magazine named him one of the “10 Social Media Personalities Making the Most Noise” in 2018.

In recognition of surpassing 10 million subscribers, YouTube gave David Dobrik a Diamond Play Button in December 2018. Dobrik was featured in Variety Magazine’s August 2019 edition as part of its annual “Power of Young Hollywood” feature. Within that same month, he co-hosted the 2019 Teen Choice Awards with Lucy Hale, where he also received an award for Choice Male Web Star.

Based on a Piper Jaffray & Co. survey, Dobrik was ranked the most popular media personality in the teenage category in October 2019. A month later, People Magazine named him the Sexiest Heartthrob of 2019, beating out runner-ups Harry Styles and Shawn Mendes.

Business Ventures

Dobrik and Flower Shop Perfumes Co. introduced David’s Perfume in October 2020, and he partnered with the voter advocacy group HeadCount at the same time.

David offered to give five of his fans a chance to win one of five Tesla 3 models, encouraging voter registration through a non-profit website. This partnership surpassed its 200,000-voter goal, and later the New York-based organization reached nearly 120,000 voters. The campaign was a huge success, significantly exceeding its original targets, and celebrities like Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande joined the cause.

In December 2020, Forbes featured Dobrik in their annual 30 Under 30 list in the social media category. That same year, the publication also named him one of the highest-paid YouTube stars. He hosted a year-end special called “Peace Out 2020” on Facebook Watch. To boost its audiobook programming, Spotify approached Dobrik to narrate Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, as part of a dozen celebrity partnerships. Doughbrik’s Pizza opened in November 2022 in Los Angeles, and Dobrik announced a planned reality TV show about the lives of its employees.

Jeff Wittek Lawsuit

While filming at Utah Lake in central Utah in June 2020, Dobrik was operating an excavator in the water with a rope attached to the arm. The Vlog Squad members were taking turns to hold onto the end of the rope and being swung around when one member, Jeff Wittek, became severely injured after hitting the machine. It was later revealed that Wittek had suffered skull fractures, severe eye injuries, and a broken foot.

On June 21st, 2022, Wittek filed a civil lawsuit against Dobrik, seeking $10 million in damages for negligence and intentional harm. Wittek alleged that Dobrik deliberately sped up the machine and then jerked the arm, causing him to slam into it. ​As of today, the lawsuit remains active, and Wittek has stated he wants the case to go to trial.

Legal Issues

Just under a year later, in March 2021, an independent investigation found that Vlog Squad member Dominykas Zeglaitis, a.k.a. Durte Dom, had sexually assaulted a woman. The alleged offence occurred during the filming of a 2018 video for Dobrik’s vlog. The girl involved stated that she and her friends had been given alcohol, and Dobrik had then filmed her entering Zeglaitis’ bedroom. The woman said that Zeglaitis then sexually assaulted her when she was intoxicated, and footage from the night was briefly uploaded to YouTube before being removed following complaints.​

Within hours of the allegations being made public, YouTube temporarily demonetized Dobrik’s three main channels under its Creator Responsibility policy. Although there were no accusations made against Dobrik for assault, he was heavily criticized for allowing the situation to become unsafe and using it for content. In response, Dobrik issued several public apologies and said he was no longer filming with Zeglaitis.

After the story was published, Dobrik’s main channel lost around 100,000 subscribers and over 66 million views. Major sponsors, including Dollar Shave Club, EA Sports, Audible, and SeatGeek, ended their partnerships with him. Eventually, Dobrik took a three-year break from the public eye before returning to YouTube in January 2025 with a video titled “New Year, New Me, New Vlog.” Although no legal charges were brought against Dobrik, the allegations severely affected his career and reputation and likely his finances following the loss of his sponsors.
