Dead By Daylight: How To Access The Player Test Build (PTB)

To say the least, asymmetrical survival horror Dead by Daylight is not short on content. Despite being over 4 years old, the game has stayed fresh largely by being unafraid to expand and change without losing the core that makes it unique. With the new addition of Pyramid Head to the roster, the game is up to an impressive 20 killers, each with distinct playstyles, game-changing perks, and truly horrifying looks that make each session a fresh new hell (in the best possible way) for survivors. Even with loads of advice on how to become a master slayer and how to get the best of them as a cagey survivor, the developers' willingness to constantly grow and expand their product means that nothing stays certain and players constantly need to adapt. The possible introduction of a new game mode confirms that this approach shows no signs of slowing - Dead by Daylight is determined to stay scary.

This ethos of adaptability makes getting in on the ground floor all the more tempting. Fortunately, another feature that makes Dead by Daylight unique amongst its kind is the Player Test Build (PTB). Unlike the purely internal testing performed for most games, new experimental content is given directly to the players, allowing for a broader, more communal Beta experience. The massive upside of this is that players can get early glimpses at what is to come, getting a feel for new material and even providing feedback that will help shape it before a final release. This guide will explain how to access the PTB quickly and easily.

Dead by Daylight: Accessing the Player Test Build

At the moment, the PTB is only accessible on Steam, meaning consoles cannot take advantage as of yet. However, for those with Steam, accessing the PTB is quite straightforward. First, right-click the Dead by Daylight icon in the steam library. Enter the properties menu, then click the "Betas" tab, selecting "public-test" from the drop-down menu. Launching the game after doing this will start the game in the PTB automatically. To return to the live, full version, simply close the game and navigate back to the "Betas" tab, selecting "NONE - Opt-out of all beta programs." Feel free to go back and forth between the two, there's no restriction on opting in or out. If the beta options do not appear, check to make sure the public beta is live either on Twitter or through the Dead by Daylight main website.
