lonfan L I picked up some Testors "Decal Set" #8804 I wanted to try it on the Decals that will go on a Computer for the Creature Art's "FLY" Kit. The Computer Console is made Complety of Resin,So These Dials and Switches Are Decals and I don't wanna Ruin em'. So the Directions Say: "Apply Set With Brush to Surface To Be Decaled.Soak Decal in Water for 10 Seconds Allow Decal To Set For 30 Sec. Brush Set On Decal Before Applying To Model." Well Does This Mean I Put the Decal Where I want it on the Kit FIRST THEN Brush the "Set" On it,OR Do Brush It with the "Set" THEN put it aside for 30 Seconds THEN Apply to the Kit? Do I slide the Decal Off the Backing BEFORE I Apply the "Set"? I'm sorry NEVER used this before. Thanks as always for your Help. You're supposed to apply the decal set to the surface of the model and place the decal on top of it. That way the decal set can do it's thing and the decal snuggles down on to the model surface without any silvering. Since you've never used decal set before, I strongly suggest that you test the decal set with an odd piece of the same decal sheet before committing the decals you want to use to the model. Different decal film reacts differently with different decal set. Decal set has a way of really softening thin decals and making them hard to position. Sometimes you don't need decal set and all you need is a glossy surface. Rather than use a decal setting solution, using a decal softener like MicroSol. This is applied after the decal has mostly dried and softens the decal so that it snuggles down on the surface. Again I would test it first. Jim #3 · Apr 6, 2005 And here's a little secret that will really surprise you. Wanna get a lifetime supply of decal set for under a buck? Go to the supermarket and buy the cheapest bottle you can find of white vinegar. Same stuff. #4 · Apr 7, 2005 I THOUGHT SO!!! #5 · Apr 7, 2005 (Edited) WATCH IT, Ziz! The Decal Set MIB's are probably at your door, right now, for giving their secret away! Scottie #6 · Apr 7, 2005

So I've been cleaning out my coffee maker with decal set all this time? :freak: #7 · Apr 7, 2005 Although Ziz is right about the vinegar, you should still test you decals before committing the decals you're using to vinegar. The main difference between decal setting solution and vinegar is that decal set is a solution of water and vinegar. Straight vinegar may be too strong for some decals. Besides, who has room on their bench for an economy size jug of vinegar. :p Jim #8 · Apr 7, 2005 YEAH ZIZ - This stuff had a Stench I couldn't put my Finger on IT WAS VINEGAR!!! Well This was for the Decals on that Fly Kit,But I Went ahead and applied a Bit on the Dial Faces and Such I really don't see a Difference this Morning But Thanks for the Tips! JOHN/LONFAN #9 · Apr 9, 2005 ii have some model master decal set that i haven't tried yet, which IS the better way to place very small fragile decals ? decal set or brush a little future in the spot and apply to the futured surface, and can you or should you use decal set on top of a futured spot or is that wasted effort ?
