When it comes to Easter, I am a little kid. I LOVE decorating Easter eggs. We usually dye our Easter eggs with the tried and true vinegar, hot water, and food coloring method. The kids and I tried decorating East eggs with shaving cream and it was awesome.

Not going to lie, it was a mess. A big hot Technicolor mess. But really, what's wrong with an Easter Bunny Approved good time?

The color combinations are endless. Each and every one of your homemade Easter eggs has a gorgeous, unique marbled look.

Decorating Easter Eggs with Shaving Cream

I enjoy decorating Easter eggs more than my kids.

Just about every year they ask "Mom, why don't we just buy plastic eggs." As I roll my eyes loudly in their direction, I explain that making eggs is one of my favorite childhood memories.

Grandmother Goldie would decorate I don't know how many dozen eggs for all of my cousins to hide around her farm. We would find those that the dogs didn't eat first...or those that didn't get lost in car mufflers. Whoops!

Boil up your eggs the normal way and let cool. I like the method of covering the eggs in cold water, bringing to a boil for 1 minute, cover and remove from heat. Let sit 10 minutes...done.

Dip each egg in white vinegar and set aside. This makes the colors brighter and "stick" better. I am sure you could skip this step, but we've come this far. So don't.

Now...the fun part of decorating Easter eggs. The actual decorating!

You could do this step in a large batch on a large cookie sheet with sides. Just work in sections with your different color combinations.

Since I we had three kids (including myself in that count) on this project, we decided each person would work in their own disposable bowl.

Next, regular inexpensive shaving cream. The white fluffy kind. Not the fancy kind today's man uses. I'm talking about the kind of shaving cream Grandpa used to use.

Per the Pinterest experts, your fancy smelly gel shaving cream will not work.

Add a few drops of food coloring. Or if you are my kids, use a ton of food coloring. Using a toothpick or plastic knife, gently swirl the colors around. Do not over-mix or the colors will be muddy instead of swirled and marbled.

Place the egg in the colored shaving cream and move it around. You can either use your hand (we advise gloves...which we didn't have), or use a plastic spoon.

Decorated Easter hands are totally a thing.

Scoop the eggs out, and place them on a wire rack to dry for about 1-2 hours.

Use paper towels to wipe off the excess shaving cream, and that's it!

They have a beautiful marbled color. So fun. Every single egg is a surprise piece of art!

Marble Dyed Easter Eggs

Ingredients

• 2 dozen eggs hardboiled and cooled
• Water
• ½ cup white vinegar
• 1 can white shaving cream
• Food coloring
• Styrofoam bowls
• Plastic spoons
• Toothpicks
• Paper towels a lot of them

Instructions

• In a large pot, place eggs in the bottom. Cover with cold water, until eggs have 1 inch of water over them.
• Place on stove, and over high heat bring to a boil. Once they have boiled for 1 minute, cover and remove from heat. Let sit 10 minutes.
• Drain, and cool by running cold water over them.
• Dip each egg into vinegar, set aide.
• Place shaving cream in Styrofoam bowls. Add drops of desired food coloring to each bowl, and swirl with toothpick.
• Gently roll egg around in the colored cream. Transfer carefully to a wire rack to dry 1 to 2 hours.
• Wipe remaining cream off of eggs. That's it.
