Degree Studies: Full-time Or Part-time | Future Students

Full-time versus Part-time

• Full-time undergraduate students are defined as those taking nine credits or more per academic term.
• Part-time undergraduate students are defined as those taking fewer than nine credits per academic term.

What's Available

The majority of our courses are offered on a part-time basis, allowing our students to balance personal and professional obligations. Certain Faculties such as the Schulich School of Business and the Lassonde School of Engineering require students to take their courses full-time. Be sure to check if your program requires full-time enrolment.

1. Studying part-time during the day: Consider almost any undergraduate program at York.

Exceptions:

• Cinema & Media Arts, Dance, Design, Digital Media, Music, Theatre or Visual Arts & Art History through the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design
• Social Work through the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies
• Schulich School of Business
• Second-Entry Bachelor of Science in Nursing through the Faculty of Health

2. Studying part-time during the daytime, evenings and on weekends: York offers some full-time, daytime-only programs, plus programs and courses offered in the late afternoon and evenings/weekends. Part-time programs/courses are suited to students who are interested in pursuing only a few courses each term and/or work full-time.

If your time is limited to afternoon/evening/weekend study, several Faculties provide flexible scheduling. Search our online course website.

3. Studying full-time: All our undergraduate programs and most of our graduate programs are available.

How to Apply

Undergraduate admission and application procedures are the same whether you're interested in full-time or part-time studies. Once you're admitted, the number of courses you enrol in will determine your status each year. At York, you pay by the course.
