Financial Issues

In 1997, Rodman was ordered to pay $200,000 to a cameraman for kicking him in the groin on purpose during an NBA game. Eugene Amos got a little too close to Rodman after he fell on the ground and ended up having to be carried off the court on a stretcher and hospitalized for his injuries. As a result, the NBA suspended Rodman for 11 games, costing him more than $1 million in earnings overall.

Later, in March 2012, it became public knowledge that Rodman owed $860,376 in outstanding child and spousal support payments. He claimed he could not pay due to severe financial hardship, which is hard to believe given that he earned more than $27 million in salary alone throughout his NBA career.

A few years later, in 2015, Rodman announced that he fired his business/financial manager, Peggy Ann Fulford, claiming that she lied to him about graduating from Harvard and that she might have been stealing from him for many years. That turned out to be true, as in 2018, a judge found Fulford guilty of stealing millions of dollars from multiple professional athletes, like Rodman, and was ordered to pay $5.7 million in restitution to all of her victims and received a 10-year prison sentence.

Aside from that, Rodman has also faced many more minor issues over the years, including a $20,000 fine for leaving his team during the NBA playoffs in 1998, a $68,000 fine for skipping a pre-season training camp in 1992, another $20,000 fine for fighting with a referee, and a $2,000 fine for drink driving.

Since then, Rodman has tried to regain financial stability through social and traditional media appearances and other business ventures, but these efforts have proven largely unsuccessful despite his ongoing attempts to stay relevant.
