pt1e P Is there any general standard for depreciation on crossbows? I know they say the best time to buy a gun is after deer season and I am sure that is the same for crossbows. Most people have probably packed their gear away but I'm sure some late season people are out there. New models are released now for tenpoint so I assume some people will be looking to sell. I guess the question is, when are you better off just buying a new one vs used? 10% off? 15? I'm looking at the tenpoint vengent and viper which from what I understand have zero changes from last year. Will their new and used prices drop? #1 · Dec 23, 2020 Is there any general standard for depreciation on crossbows? Quite a few vertical folks retool every 1-2 years so you can often pick up sweet deals on lightly used vertical equipment. Crossbows are often kept 5 years or more so fewer come onto the market, and when they do, expect a lot of depreciation on the value. One thing to keep in mind with crossbows is many only warranty the bow to the original owner and crossbows can have limb issues due to super high poundage these days. Excalibur is a brand that warranties forever regardless of the owner (at least the last I saw) so getting a used Excalibur might be something you want to look at. I prefer buying new but that is just my preference. I don't want other peoples problems. #3 · Dec 23, 2020 Don't have a crystal ball, so I cant really give numbers, but it seems to me that with archery gear, there is always a new and improved model about every year, and a lot of guys have to have the newest thing. Almost like your 3 year old bow or crossbow can't kill a deer anymore... I still bow hunt with a 1990 or so Jennings Buckmaster, and a 6 or 7 year old Horton crossbow. They still work fine, so I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the newest being the bestest. What I would consider is the warranty on the used bow you are considering. Can it be transferred from the original owner if its still in effect? If from a dealer, will he provide any post sales coverage. I state that because crossbows, especially high performance models can have issues. Before buying my Horton, I had a new Barnett that was nothing but problems, and was eventually able to get my money refunded, something I doubt would have happened if I had bought it used. Larry #4 · Dec 24, 2020 I love my Parker T/Hawk but am so bummed about them just up and quitten it is highly unlikely I will ever buy a new Xbow again especially with the prices today.I still have my Bear W/Tail Hunter from the 80,s. #6 · Dec 25, 2020 I'm pretty sure that the guy that is behind all the Parker design/technology works for Tenpoint now. 0 Reply #5 · Dec 24, 2020 The high end crossbows new are only going up in price. It blows my mind that crossbows cost more than a top tier production rifle. I won’t pay 2-4K for any piece of hunting equipment, even if I can afford it. That being said especially this year you won’t find many sales. Most are on back order due to high sales volumes. In a normal year archery equipment depreciates 20-30% within a year. Higher end and more popular bows depreciate less due to the demand. After 3 years your probably looking at 50-70% depreciation. Again this is all rough and certain equipment hold value better. #7 · Dec 26, 2020 I also can,t stand the looks of em.They look like somethin right out of Star Wars,Where as mine looks like a Huntin tool. #8 · Dec 31, 2020 Timing, I bought my Bear Bruzer the year they were discontinued. It was an 'open box' on e-bay for $290.00 with the wrong scope. $80,00 for a Ten Point take off and $60.00 for a bear case. Two years later and the Bear FFL models are all bringing close to their original price, used. It's ugly, a little heavy but I expect it to fill my needs for a while Insert Quotes Post Reply
