Despicable Me 4 Release Date, Cast And More - Digital Spy

Despicable Me 4 will land in cinemas this summer, bringing back Gru and the Minions as they're forced to go on the run from a new supervillain.
The fourth movie – and sixth overall in the Despicable Me series, including the two Minions movies – was confirmed in February 2022 after both Despicable Me 3 and Minions made more than $1 billion at the box office worldwide.
Chris Renaud returned as director after missing out the third movie, with Patrick Delage co-directing and the script was written by Mike White and Ken Daurio.
We were treated to the first trailer for Despicable Me 4 earlier this year, so if that's got you excited for the return of Gru, here's everything you need to know about Despicable Me 4.

Despicable Me 4 release date: When will Despicable Me 4 be released in cinemas?
Despicable Me 4 will arrive in US cinemas on July 3, but UK fans will have to wait a little bit as it'll arrive in UK cinemas on July 12.
Now that the cast has been confirmed (more on them in a bit) and the first trailer is out, let's hope that everything is on track for that summer release.
We'll update this if there are any changes.

Despicable Me 4 trailer: Watch the Despicable Me 4 trailer here!
Universal released the first trailer for Despicable Me 4 on January 28, 2024, following it up with an AI spoof for the Super Bowl on February 11.
The first trailer featured more Minion shenanigans and Gru on another heist, but this time, he's joined with his family which now includes Gru Jr. If you missed the trailer above, check it out below:
Despicable Me 4 cast: Who's coming back for Despicable Me 4?
Steve Carell is, of course, be back as Gru (and probably his twin brother Dru) in Despicable Me 4, and he'll be joined by some familiar faces.
Kristen Wiig will reprise her role as Gru's wife Lucy Wilde, and Miranda Cosgrove will also be back as Gru and Lucy's oldest adopted daughter Margo alongside Dana Gaier and Madison Polan as their other adopted daughters Edith and Agnes, respectively.
Steve Coogan is back as Silas Ramsbottom, the former director of the Anti-Villain League, and the beloved Minions, including Mel, Kevin, Stuart and Bob, will again be brought to life by Pierre Coffin (who, for the first time, is not co-directing).
We don't yet know whether Julie Andrews, who has voiced Gru and Dru's mother Marlena in the majority of the movies to date, will be back but we'd be surprised if she didn't return even for another brief cameo like in the third movie.
Newcomers for the fourth movie are Will Ferrell as supervillain Maxime Le Mal, Sofia Vergara as Le Mal's girlfriend Valentina and Joey King as aspiring supervillain Poppy, while Stephen Colbert and Chloe Fineman have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Despicable Me 4 plot: What is Despicable Me 4 about?
Along with the first trailer, we got an official plot synopsis for Despicable Me 4 and Gru is facing a new threat.
"The biggest global animated franchise in history now begins a new chapter as Gru and Lucy and their girls – Margo, Edith and Agnes – welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr, who is intent on tormenting his dad," it reads.
"Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina, and the family is forced to go on the run."
At the end of Despicable Me 3, Gru and Lucy were back in the Anti-Villain League, while their family has expanded with the addition of Gru's twin brother Dru who has taken charge of the Minions.
It's unclear if Dru is back in the new movie, but Carell told Digital Spy in 2022 that we will see more of Gru's new and improved family.
"It's a continuation of the story. Gru and Lucy are married [and] they're a family at this point," he explained.
"It's the next step in their world with the Anti-Villain League and how their kids are included in the whole process."
We'll have to wait and see what that entails, but we can absolutely guarantee more Minion-based hijinks.
Despicable Me 4 is released in US cinemas on July 3 and in UK cinemas on July 12.
