Destiny 2: How To Reach 1580 Power Level Quickly - TheGamer

Every new expansion in Destiny 2 raises the Power level cap by a certain amount. Seasons used to raise the Power cap by a small amount, but the recent Edge of Fate expansion has opted for a massive Power crunch. The major spikes in Guardian Power are now part of the seasonal content model, featuring small Power bumps with each major update.

With Edge of Fate, everyone is set to a Power floor or ten. You'll need to complete activities and acquire tons of gear to raise your Guardian's Power to the pinnacle cap, which will make endgame content significantly easier. To help you reach that cap, we'll go over how Power level works, the Power increases you can expect from each activity, and some strategies you can use to level your main and alternate characters quickly.

Updated August 1, 2025, by Charles Burgar: Now that we've had time to experiment with the new Power system, we've found the best strategies for getting your Power to 450 in the current expansion. We've updated this guide with tips on how to hit 450 Power as fast as possible—spoilers, it's mostly Caldera farming.

How Does Power Level Work?

Destiny 2 Guardian With Low Power Level-1

If you're a seasoned Destiny 2 player, you can skip this section.

Power level determines three key things in Destiny 2:

  • How much damage you deal.
  • How much damage you can take.
  • The quality of loot you receive, otherwise known as gear tiers .

The higher your level is, the greater both of these bonuses are. If your Power level is lower than the activity's recommended level, you will be taking substantially more damage from enemies and deal less to combatants. It also allows you to ramp up the Power deficit in Portal content, which will greatly increase the quality of rewards you receive.

To increase your Power level, you must obtain new weapons and armor with a higher Power level rating. All loot you obtain will increase your Power level until you reach the 'hard cap.' This cap changes each expansion. For The Edge of Fate, the hard cap is 200 Power.

Once you reach the soft cap, you will need to obtain Powerful Gear from Portal activities to scale your item's Power further. This is known as Seasonal Bonus Power, and it lasts until the end of the current expansion. The Seasonal Bonus Power cap is currently 450 Power.

Artifact Power Deprication

Artifact Power is no longer a thing. After you hit the hard cap, the only way to increase your Power is to scale the Seasonal Bonus Power on your items by completing Portal content.

The Edge Of Fate Power Level Bands

destiny-2-the-edge-of-fate-press-image-4.jpg

The Edge of Fate's Power bands are the following:

  • Hard Cap: 200
  • Seasonal Bonus Power: 450
    • This will increase to 500 with Ash & Iron in September.

Hard Cap

Campaign content, most Portal activities, and world drops are your main sources of Power in this band. If you complete the Edge of Fate campaign on Legendary difficulty, you'll quickly reach the hard cap. Drops on Legendary offer massive power boosts compared to Normal difficulty.

Seasonal Bonus Power Cap

Gear rewards from Portal activities are the only way to increase your gear's Power past 200. You'll need to achieve an A rank in Portal activities near your current Power to receive any level gains.

Seasonal Bonus Power Gear Sources

Destiny 2 Portal Menu

These sources drop up to the Seasonal Bonus Power cap, which is currently set to 450. The Power boost you get is determined by your current level and potential score. To receive optimal Power drops, you must complete the activity with a Power deficiency close to your current Power Level and achieve an A rank. For example, if you're at 280 Power, you'll want to get an A rank on Expert difficulty. If that becomes impossible to achieve, you'd bump up to Master difficulty.

Only increase your Power delta when it's no longer possible to achieve an A rank. The difficulty modifiers you choose will influence how high of a rating you can achieve. Once you can't hit an A rank without imposing serious penalties, that's when it's better to bump up the base difficulty.

Some of the activities in each playlist are tied to expansion and seasonal content.

This Power bonus will be reset to the hard cap of 200 at the start of a new expansion.

General Leveling Tips

Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Dormant Dish On Kepler

Complete The Edge Of Fate Legendary Campaign

The Edge of Fate campaign has two difficulty variants: Normal and Legendary. You'll want to play on Legendary. Completing the Final Shape campaign on Legendary awards a ton of high-Power gear that should make getting to 200 trivial. Unlike past expansions, you don't get a set of gear near the hard cap upon beating the campaign; you just get more drops per encounter. Even still, this bypasses a huge chunk of the Power grind.

Additional Tips

Complete Portal activities with targeted drops whenever your items have a similar Power level. This will grant a major boost to one slot, making your completion rewards "even out" your other slots. For example, if you don't have a Heavy weapon with a high Power level, look for an activity that guarantees a Heavy weapon as a reward. These rewards rotate, so check back often.

If you want to farm tons of drops quickly, run the Encore mission in the Pinnacle Ops playlist.

If you have more than one character, you have even more sources of Powerful gear you can leverage. Your highest Power is tracked across your entire account. For example, if your Hunter is at 250 and your Warlock is at 180, your Warlock's first few items are going to be considerably higher than usual to help them fast track to 250.

Reaching 200 Power Quickly

destiny-2-the-edge-of-fate-press-image-1.jpg

Reaching the soft cap in Destiny 2 is incredibly easy thanks to the massive stat crunch that happened in The Edge of Fate. If you own the expansion, complete the Edge of Fate campaign on Legendary. This will bypass most of the hard cap grind. If you complete the campaign on two characters, you're virtually guaranteed to hit 200 Power.

If you don't own the expansion, farm Solo Ops content that you can speedrun. These missions are fairly short and can be tailored to your skill level.

Reaching 450 Power Quickly

destiny-2-the-edge-of-fate-press-image-6.jpg

Reaching 450 Power is heavily reliant on RNG, especially once you hit 400 Power. The Power grind past 200 requires you to farm Portal activities with an A rank, as this will give you a reward package with a small Power bump. Keep farming activities with A-tier rewards, and you'll incrementally boost your Power. It's a slow process, but it's the only way to meaningfully raise your Power.

The process looks something like this:

  • 200 to 300: Farm Solo Ops at A rank.
    • Currently, the best missions are Caldera and K1 Logistics.
  • 300 to 400: Continue farming Solo Ops or complete Pinnacle Ops.
    • Good options include Encore and Kell's Fall. Use modifiers that increase damage or speed up the mission.
  • 400 to 450: Complete Portal activities for a rare chance of a Prime Engram (estimated to be a 5% drop chance).
    • Ash & Iron will add more drop sources in September.

It's a simple process, if incredibly tedious. You can technically play any activity in Portal to boost your Power, yet Caldera and K1 Logistics are so quick that nothing comes remotely close. You'll want to farm these activities as much as possible to get your Power up to 400.

After you hit 400, you're at the mercy of RNG. Prime Engrams are your only source of Powerful drops at this point until the Ash & Iron update drops in September. Every activity you complete in Portal has a small chance of dropping an engram, which will contain a T5 piece of gear with a small Power bump. We suggest you stop focusing on Power at this point until Ash & Iron drops later in the year, as that update will add a plethora of new Power sources and more readily accessible methods of farming T5 gear.
