    Find Your Way to Fire Island National Seashore Sites

    You can get to Fire Island National Seashore from a number of locations on Long Island, and by various modes of transportation. From mid-May to mid-October, many visitors either drive or take the Long Island Railroad to ferry terminals on Long Island and take passenger ferries that service mid-island communities and National Park Service sites. The Fire Island Lighthouse, Wilderness Visitor Center, and William Floyd Estate are accessible year-round by car. The William Floyd Estate is open mid-May to mid-November, opening only for special programs in winter. Check the calendar of events for fun before your trip.

    Traveling by car?

    You can get to the Fire Island Lighthouse, Wilderness Visitor Center, and William Floyd Estate year-round. Find detailed driving directions to each site. Fire Island Ferries, Sayville Ferry Service, and Davis Park Ferry are located on Long Island and service Fire Island communities and Sailors Haven and Watch Hill.

    Taking the train to a ferry terminal or William Floyd Estate?

    Take the train to Bay Shore for Fire Island Ferries to Fire Island Lighthouse and western communities. Take the train to Sayville for Sayville Ferry Service to Sailors Haven, Cherry Grove, Fire Island Pines, or Water Island. Take the train to Patchogue for Davis Park Ferry service to Watch Hill or Davis Park. Take the train to Mastic Beach and then a taxi to the William Floyd Estate on Long Island.

    Headed to Fire Island communities?

    The best way is by boat. Passenger ferries service Fire Island communities and mid-island National Park Serivce (NPS) sites like Sailors Haven and Watch Hill. Ferry terminals are located on Long Island and are accessible by train and by car. You can get to some Fire Island communities, like Kismet and Saltaire, on foot from Robert Moses State park which is located on the west end of Fire Island and is accessible by car year-round.
