Discord: How To Mute A User - Android Police

One of the best Android social apps that everyday users have installed on their favorite Android phones is Discord. Discord is primarily a social messaging app, but we depend on the app to feed us news and update us with some of our favorite games and hobbies. But sometimes, socialization on a high-traffic messaging app can become noisy and unmanageable, which is why we turn to the handy mute feature on Discord.

Muting is the perfect measure when we want a drama-free experience and a well-earned intermission from all that daily stress, giving us complete control over voice channels and messages. Even if we don't want the hassle of managing this alone, consider adding Discord bots to govern your servers. So say goodbye to the social stress and disruption since today's guide illustrates how to mute someone in a voice channel, your direct messages, and inside a Discord server. Let's dig in.

How to mute someone in a voice channel on Discord

Muting someone in a voice channel may save you a headache, like avoiding poor audio quality with playback interference or a desire to remove an annoying echo resulting from two users in the same room. Muting that Discord user will ensure you can't hear them, but they will still hear you.

We used the Discord app for Android in this post, but iPhone users will find the process much the same on the iOS app.

How to mute messages on Discord

Your Discord messages are known as Discord conversations. Like any social messaging app, muting messages prevents new message notifications from popping up. But if you choose to view those conversations, you will still see those missed messages. This is like having a "busy" status, except you don't receive red notifications from the muted activity. Harassment might still be an underlying problem. In cases like those, stop incoming messages altogether by using the Discord block feature.

How to mute someone on a Discord server

Mobile app users cannot mute someone on a Discord server. However, if you want to mute due to disruptive behavior, add a Discord bot to your Discord server. This way, you can issue mutes (and bans) by inputting the appropriate bot commands.

  1. Select a server from your list and navigate to the right to access the server's Discord user list. Screenshot of muting users on a Discord server on desktop

Muting on Discord can be necessary, but it's always reversible

Unless you're new to Discord, you don't have to be a Discord socialite to get the most out of your experience. Even with notifications turned off, important events are simple to keep track of over Discord. In addition, the built-in muting feature for your conversations, voice channels, and personal Discord servers can come in handy when cutting down on unwelcome disruptions and unnecessary spam. And if you decide you're ready to take on more activity, it only takes a minute to unmute those Discord users, conversations, and channels and continue like nothing ever changed. It's great!
