The brand new Avengers Campus in the Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris opens today (July 20, 2022). A few days before the official launch, we were able to check out the newest addition to the Studios. It’s a bit different than the version out at Disney California Adventure, but many of the elements are similar. Let’s take a look at the brand new Avengers Campus Paris!

Layout of Disneyland Paris Avengers Campus

If you’ve seen Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure, you already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from this new land. However, the layout and design are different in Paris, making this version a new experience.

Take a walk through Avengers Campus in the video below:

The premise of the land is similar to the version in California. It is a mix of old and new buildings (thanks to the storied history of the Stark company) that showcase the technology and powers of the Avengers. The level of detail given to this land is really amazing with its collection of sleek, modern buildings in contrast to the more vintage-looking ones.

This area was a complete redesign of what used to be there. The former attraction Armageddon was completely demolished in order to make way for the twice-as-large Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure. Additionally, the added change of landscaping helped to soften the land, which is a welcome change considering the tar and steel pillars of the Backlot. Take a look at the difference in the video:

The land features an array of buildings that were originally built by the Stark Motors company and then modernized by the Avengers. The land has familiar names, like the PYM Kitchen and the Avengers HQ. As far as characters go, they are very similar to the version at DCA. You’ll find most of the characters near the Quinjet and also along the rooftop of the campus.

While the land is beautiful, the design has a bit of a downside… Because the the land is a dead end, it will likely be a heavy traffic pinch point. We certainly hope that there is some kind of crowd regulation in Avengers Campus because it could quickly clog up with congestion. That said, once the land is connected to the future lake and Arendelle opens in 2025, it will be more breathable and traversable.

Construction at the back of the Studios park for a new lake and future lands mean that Avengers Campus is currently a dead end (That’s Avengers Campus at the bottom right).

The land is quite small. Unlike in California, the Tower of Terror was not converted to a Guardians of the Galaxy ride here, even though it occupies practically the same space.

Avengers Campus Paris Opening Ceremony

We were very lucky to be there for the opening ceremony of Avengers Campus:

Avengers Training Center

If meeting the Avengers is a personal goal of yours, then you should head to the Training Center. Here, you will find two superheroes waiting to meet their fans. If you have a PhotoPass, you can ask for a “multi-angle photo.” The character interaction here is amazing and the sets are really high quality. This is definitely something to check out!

If you want to see something a bit more naturally occurring, there are mini-shows (happenings) every 15 minutes. This varies from a character popping out to say hello or something a bit more over-the-top. Here, we have Spider-Man trying out his new suit:

You can also find Wakandan warriors, the Dora Milaje, training new recruits. This is one of our favorite happenings in the land. It’s high energy and quite a spectacle.

Black Widow and Black Panther try to stop the villain Taskmaster from stealing valuable Vibranium.

Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure

This is THE premier attraction of the land. For Disneyland Paris, this is an all-new type of attraction — especially because there is no Toy Story Mania-type attraction at the resort. It is a welcome addition to the park and refreshingly new.

This is the French version of the attraction already open at DCA. The Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure takes place in a former Stark Motors factory that has been revitalized as a training institute. And on the opening day of the school, something goes terribly awry and the Spider-Bots malfunction and attack the campus instead of doing their job as helpers.

While this isn’t an E-ticket attraction by any means, (it’s likely a C or D if we were to classify it), it has a high capacity of more than 1800 people an hour and with a lot of replay value. We really liked seeing the various animations for the Spider-Bots, especially since they all react differently. And the preshow and queue for the attraction are also very well-themed and highly detailed.

Mission Equipment Shop

Welcome to Mission Equipment, the shop of Avengers Campus. Here, you can find everything Marvel-themed with a wide assortment of merchandise. Looking for your own Spider-Bot or a Web Shooter upgrade? You can find them here. And if you’re in the market for a new shirt or some costumes, you’ll find those here too. This store is for all your Avengers Campus needs.

Avengers Assemble: Flight Force

Heroes, it’s your time to shine. Here at Avengers HQ, you’re called to help Iron-Man and Captain Marvel prevent the Kree missiles from blowing up the planet. This is a brand-new attraction to either version of Avengers Campus.

The building and the queue are both beautiful and well-designed. However, for it being considered the headquarters of the land, there are no visible offices or meeting rooms to make it seem like this building is actually used for anything beyond a queue for the attraction. It breaks the immersion a little bit, but it isn’t too big of a deal.

The queue features a magnificent Iron-Man audio-animatronic, the first of its kind for Disneyland Paris. Considering that there is no face animation for this animatronic, we hope that it can be well-maintained over the years. Everything in the queue is top-notch. The theming, design of the building, and even the details of the loading station are all fantastic.

Unfortunately, as far as the attraction itself goes… we’re pretty disappointed. The track and the attraction vehicle remain the same from its previous iteration as the Rock ‘n Roller Coaster. This is a major shame because, despite all of the new upgrades, it still looks and feels like a 20-year-old coaster. Additionally, the projections are subpar with poor lighting and only a handful throughout; a whole third of the ride is absent of projections, solely relying on audio— and that audio suffers from a case of overexposing. The characters announce everything they’re doing because there’s an assumption that you won’t know what they’re doing otherwise! It’s almost like the ride designers expected the guests to have an IQ of 5 and need lots of handholding. This is by no means a favorite attraction of ours.

Everything about this new version of the coaster suggests that it was designed by American teams that aren’t familiar with Disneyland Paris or its visitors. It bewilders us that Disney thought that this was an acceptable addition to a brand-new land. The attraction presents an uninteresting layout with too little animation presented in deep black, repeated audio bugs, and an uninspired repackaging of the old trains. Everything leading up to the coaster is great, but the actual attraction itself is very disappointing. For this being the first Avengers attraction in the world, it’s really quite a letdown.

Avengers Campus Restaurants

There are two restaurants in Avengers Campus: PYM Kitchen and Stark Factory. We definitely prefer one over the other. Let’s check them out!

PYM Kitchen

This restaurant is a major departure compared to the California version. While the one at DCA is a quick-service restaurant, the version at Disneyland Paris is a buffet. And whereas the DCA version is fun (though a bit sparse), the one in Paris is lacking in style and with very light decoration.

The dining room is white and sterile, almost like a hospital waiting room. PYM Kitchen has taken over the outdoor terrace of the former Nescafé counter, and while the physical footprint is larger, there are still some problems in terms of the size of the buffet not likewise increasing. The dishes offered here are good but not original.

In terms of pricing, it’s a bit more expensive (at 42€). Unfortunately, the other buffets have not only more selection of dishes but also prettier environments. And when it comes to the drinks, I have a bone to pick. Not only are they expensive (10€ for non-alcoholic; 15€ for alcoholic), they are overly filled with ice, watering them down and making them tasteless. The only one we thought was decent was the Blue Chardonnay

Stark Factory

Finally, a quick service restaurant that offers more than cold sandwiches and chips! At the new Stark Factory restaurant (unique to Disneyland Paris), you can find pasta and pizza that are all made in-house.

I like this dining room a lot better than PYM Kitchen, plus it has a little office that belongs to Peggy Carter that you can visit and eat in.

As far as food goes, this is a top choice. The pizzas are simply excellent. It is surprising to find high-quality fast food in the park. However, it comes with a significant cost. At most fast food restaurants in the park you’ll get a full meal with dessert for €14, but here that’s the cost of a single slice of pizza! The pasta costs €13, and the most egregious price is for salad, which costs €8.5. This is certainly a steep cost for food at Disneyland. That said, you likely won’t find better food in the park.

Avengers Campus Nighttime Tour

The land really comes alive at night. The ambiance of the land, with its soft atmosphere and absence of direct lighting, is really enjoyable to spend time in. If you visit Avengers Campus, be sure to see it at night too!

Final Thoughts

The reopening of this area of the park is largely a success. The transformation of the Backlot into Avengers Campus succeeds on multiple levels, including nonstop entertainment, unique attractions, and the high-quality design of the land. Everything is made to last, which is a big departure from the rest of the park (except for the Ratatouille district). With the opening of Avengers Campus, there’s something that the park hasn’t seen since the 1995 opening of Space Mountain: a coherent project that is built with quality materials. The main disappointment in the land is the Flight Force coaster overlay of the old Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Walt Disney Studios Updates

To finish out this article, we’ve been seeing some cranes at the future site of Arendelle. The plans for the reinvention of the Walt Disney Studios Park called for a Marvel Land (which is now open), a Star Wars land, a Frozen land, and a Cars takeover of the old Studio Tour (now complete).

Disneyland Paris Avengers Campus, Disneyland Paris Avengers Campus Now Open!

It is likely that Arendelle will open sometime in 2025 (one land generally takes about 3 years of construction) and the third land (Star Wars?) will likely shoot for 2028… That is 10 years after the announcement of the expansions— it’s just too long! 3 years between each new land or attraction expansion.

When complete, the par will look something like this (That expansion zone at top is currently a low-budget Cars overlay of the old Studio Tour):
