24 years ago on this day, Gulshan Kumar, the legendary founder of the T-Series music label was assassinated in Andheri West suburb in Mumbai city, which is the heart of the Bollywood film industry.

The murder sent shockwaves through the entire nation and outside it, especially due to the involvement of such a high profile name in it with the perpetrators of the operation to be the Mumbai underworld organization D-Company.

Popularly known as the 'Cassette King', the late Gulshan Kumar had achieved tremendous success after moving to Mumbai from the streets of Delhi earlier, manufacturing audio cassettes and then started his own label, T-Series.

Kumar, through his music label, introduced glorious Indian musicians like Sonu Nigam and others, however, his journey was cut short after he was murdered in cold blood following a tiff with the underworld.

Well, here are some disturbing things about his assassination that would feel like something straight out of a Bollywood film.

1. He Was Killed For Not Paying Extortion Money

We have seen so many movies where businessmen or heroes' parents get extortion threats from gangsters in order to save their lives. Well, this is quite exactly what happened with Gulshan Kumar as well.

According to reports, on August 5, 1997, Kumar had received calls from notorious gangster Abu Salem where he told him to pay extortion money.

However, after Kumar refused to pay the money demanded, just a week later on August 12, he was gunned down in Mumbai.

2. Shot By Sharpshooters. In Broad Daylight. Outside A Temple!

Our earliest concepts of ideas around sharpshooters or assassins come from Bollywood movies, where often the hero saves the day by taking on them in a gunfight.

Gulshan Kumar, known to be a god-loving man, had been off to Jeeteshwar Mahadev Mandir in Andheri on a regular temple visit.

However, before he could make his way to his car, two sharpshooters hiding near the temple fired three bullets at him in broad daylight.

It was reported that Gulshan tried to take shelter but before he could, the assassins then fired 15 more bullets and fled. He was then rushed to the hospital but passed away en route to the hospital.

3. The People He Knew Conspired Against Him

A lot of times, in Bollywood movies, the police or the hero does not have to go far away to investigate or take revenge for the death of a person as the people closest to him are involved in the killing.

This was similar in the murder of Gulshan Kumar as Nadeem Saifee of the Nadeem-Shravan fame, was declared as a co-conspirator in the murder.

Nadeem, who along with partner Shravan, had given everlasting music hits from movies like Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin, Saajan, Sadak, Deewana, Phool Aur Kaante, Pardes, Raaz, and others, had been handpicked by Gulshan Kumar during Nadeem's struggling years.

However, it was later reported that a personal enmity led to Nadeem conspiring against him, resulting in the murder of the T-Series head.

At the time of the killing, Nadeem had been in London and hasn't returned to India since.

4. His Killing Was Planned Overseas In Dubai

Uusally in Bollywood movies, plans for things to happen in India are often hatched overseas. Well, this was reportedly no different.

It was alleged that the conspiracy to murder Gulshan Kumar was actually formulated in Dubai.

As per reports, the police in November of 1997, had filed a 400-page charge sheet where 26 people were accused, 15 were arrested.

The charge sheet stated that the plot to assassinate had been designed in Dubai, in the office of Dawood Ibrahim's brother, Anees.
