  1. A small bag used to carry one's personal effects or toiletries while traveling.
  2. A sailor's small bag to hold thread, needles, tape, etc.; a housewife. Synonym: sailor's housewife
  3. A Girl Guide's bag to hold dishes and cutlery, usually made of mesh fabric or sewn dishtowel. Synonyms: mess bag, dilly bag, mess kit
  4. (theater) A bag used to hold costume pieces that do not hang on hangers, such as socks or gloves.
  5. (television) A cameraman's bag containing various small tools.
