“Mirror mirror on the wall, is today my best look of them all?”

In return, the mirror shows me the same thing every single time — my own face. No matter how I ask the question — the nicest, the prettiest, the funnest, the funniest, the happiest — it’s always just me.

Through this daily reinforcement, I think I know how I look well enough. I have an oval-ish face, the ish being dependent on the weight I bear during that phase of life. I have a long and pointy chin, that I have been ridiculed for and hated for a big part of my life; now I enjoy its apparent uniqueness. I have an average forehead with thick and joint eyebrows (I shave off the center).

My eyes are small with short, thin eyelashes and are nested above the trademark stripes of my dark circles. My nose and lips are small too, but shapely I’ve been told. I have a few piercings, the most prominent of which is on the right side of my nose, adorned (currently) with a gold and stone nose stud.

Some days I catch myself looking dull and tired, the remnants of last night’s nightmare still reflecting off my face. Other days when I care to make an effort to dress up, I look nice. My hair freshly washed and blow-dried, my skin clear, my eyebrows thick and bushy but not…
