Does holding your pinky up mean the finger in China?

My sister told me it, she said all of her friends say it is. A few weeks ago during 4th period my classmates kept doing the gesture at me and I was confused. They told me "Doesn't the pinky mean the middle finger in China?" I wasn't sure because I'm not Chinese. So what does the pinky actually mean in China? Rollback Post to Revision RollBack

The pinky finger is the Chinese middle finger and the use the (long) middle finger to point at stuff and the pinky is the middle finger so it different! Rollback Post to Revision RollBack

Apparently the "middle finger" thing originated from the medieval times when people would cut off archers middle fingers to make it difficult for them to load there bows When an archer saw an enemy, he would show said enemy his middle finger was intact, then he would load up his bow and fire at the enemy. There "middle finger" (or pinky finger, more to the point) thing was probably not for the same reason as our equivalent. Rollback Post to Revision RollBack

Okay. It most certainly does NOT mean the rude finger in China. The Chinese equivalent of this symbol is a fist balled up with the thumb between the middle and index fingers. Also, the Chinese use their index finger to point; like everyone else... Rollback Post to Revision RollBack
