Without it you could use all the same ingrediants but it wouldn’t seem right. Well Asafoetida smells like death, literally like a rotten corpse. Most people don’t perceive this odor in the finished product but I can imagine some might, which would make working around someone eating Indian food a total nightmare

I work with some ignorant ass people that consider curry to be 'muck' and despise the smell (but then they despise most things Asian anyway) So I don't eat it in the office any more. However, it doesn't stop these fucking bimbos from eating fucking tuna from a fucking can and making me smell that shit every fucking day I love curry man, that's my spiritual home

Strong smelling foods can stink up an entire floor and it is unprofessional. The main problem with Indian food is that the smell doesn’t dissipate. My wife’s company employs many Indians and had to ban food from people’s desks because of them. Then they had to ban it from small lunchroom because the smell would go through the offices where execs had clients. So now they can only eat in the building cafeteria, which has no Indian food. They also had had have meeting about using deodorant, as it’s a cultural thing in the U.S to smell clean lmao.

I always thought it smelled like dead animals around Indian restaurants. There was a motel/restaurant that Indians bought in town that the health department condemned because they thought there were dead animals in the walls. It was torn down. They bought another hotel/restaurant that went bankrupt because nobody would stay there. The new owner tore everything out inside and remodeled it. It took almost two years to reopen it.

But that’s because you basically have to gut it to get the smell of curry out. My buddy tore out every wall and carpet. After 6 months he had to do new flooring as well because the funk was still there. It’s funny because there are still closets that stink. He said he would never do it again.

Yes it stinks, but it's not nearly in every Indian dish (unless the resto is shit tier). Curry leaves should have a stronger smell than devil's dung unless you're cooking some really "gamey" lamb/goat/mutton.

If you spill that shit on marble or porcelin table, its a pain to clean up since the stain takes days to fade away

Generally speaking, food with strong odours should not be eaten at your desk but should be acceptable in the cafeteria. A kitchenette requires you to use your judgement. For instance, will the smell travel to the whole floor?
