+ – 2like i can understand that humanoid animals are kinda cursed in a way (minus arthropods cuz i love me some burgos) why i'm reluctant ti admit i'm a furry to some people since legit folks would likely try to kill you for it.
that was back then but nowadays it's been mellowing out lately. maybe not as much as i hoped but if the furry subculture article was any indication, folks are slowly getting into the idea…well in denial but just fapping to furry shit doesn't make one a true furry in my opinion. even i don't consider myself one since i largely tend to mostly like exotic mammals, birds, reptiles, arthropods, reptilians, monsters, aliens and chimeras. really not super cute fluffy things. not always but that's what i'm into mostly. somewhat makes me feel like an outcast sometimes.
but i wanna ask your honest thoughts about me and furries in general and how that opinion has changed over time..

+ – 4I think it really depends on who you ask. KYM is one of the most diverse internet communities out there, and though most of the people around here are fairly reasonable and tolerant I do believe that there's a handful of people here who are at least antipathetic towards anthropomorphic animals.
One thing that many people here agree on though is that you can't deny that busty vixens are hot.

+ – 6i believe that people who embrace Furry as a lifestyle are disgusting and creepy The lighter shades of Furry are usually pretty chill to be around
but in the context of KYM, I believe that it's collectively tolerant-to-pro-furry just from looking at which image galleries become trending alone.

+ – 2As a self-proclaimed enthusiast of deranged internet paraphelia it would be hypocritical of me to say I hate furries. However, I hate furries, not ones that enjoy it as a hobby/interest/even as a fetish, but those that make it their lifestyle.
I've spent the latter half of my adolescence in furry communities on Second Life (the SL military scene is/was like 90% furry, 10% Latino for some reason) and it became clear which ones were insufferable. The ones that banged on about furry pride, identified more closely with their related animal, toting a bunch of accessories or attention-grabbing items (in SL it was glowy items and scripted ones that would regularly play "cute" messages), or those that unironically inserted a bunch of furry-isms into their speech like murrs and nyas. We all have a facade we use online to interact with others, furries are no exception, but when you can't even talk to a person because they're so entrenched in this facade it's repulsive to me.

+ – 0xkcd had a good take in "It's a weird-ass fetish but weird-ass fetishes are part of how the internet works so it's not like you can hate it for that." My problem is with the ones who apparently need everyone else to know they are one (profile pictures, those emoticons, and of course posting furry content where it really doesn't need to be or spamming it in various galleries like this is a goddamn booru and ignoring the NSFW guidelines). To say nothing of people who (as others have said) turn it into a lifestyle and make everything they do about being a furry.

I don't like furries that are too deep in the hobby. Like wisehowl and artichoke said, don't make it a lifestyle, keep it to yourself as much as you would any other hobby (furry-isms in real life are a big nope) and I won't have a problem. Don't make it your entire identity.

It's one of the reasons of reluctant of making it clear I'm in the hobby. I'm at best a casual but there's assholes out there that harass any furry regardless of how into the hobby they are. Thoguh, I'm massively paranoid so take this as a grand of salt.

+ – -1Let's be real, furries have a bad reputation for a reason. Their presence on the internet outside of their own fandoms is colored by actions of people in events such as conventions (one infamous one in particular is Rainfurrest). You are lucky to find a prominent neutral interaction someone has with furries, much less a positive one.
As for KYM I'd say it's tolerated. Bronies often have overlap with furries, and the furry image section is fairly prominent here.

I don't doubt that there's people who genuinely dislike or hate all furries for whatever reason on here, whether they lurk or post often, but from my experience they seem to be a minority.
That said, I personally don't mind the furry community as a whole. Now, if I encounter a furry who's overall a creep, weird, or just an asshole, then I dislike that individual, but it's not because they're a furry, it's because they're creepy or they're weird or they're a dick or maybe even all three depending on the situation.

And who am i to change their mind, I've been successful so far in avoiding them, so i see no reason to try and hate them. KYM image gallery does have, in my opinion, a disproportionate amount of pictures involving them, but putting a filter on my end has, mostly, solved my issue. Don't see much hate to them, not even much talk about'em

Not really. Furries are/were sort of similar to nerds in the past; have historically had a bad reputation because people don't really understand them. Then you get people who act out and do dumb shit, which can be the majority of outsider's interactions with them.
I'm all for being critical of furries(or any community) when it's relevant, but your average furry is probably as well-behaved as anyone else on the internet.
I guess that makes sense. Is drawing furry art (even if it's anthropomorphic bugs) shorthorning in my furry-ness?
You mean shoehorning? No, that's fine. There is a time and place for furry stuff, and drawing is one of the best times to "be furry". Posting furry art every possible chance you have while talking to others though? Especially on your real-life social media accounts? That's definitely shoehorning it.

?? I wasn't complaining about men. I was pointing out the double standard. If you don't think it exists, compare the comments to the not all men article to the furry and proud article the first article has nearly every comments saying things like "Can we just agree that no portion of a specific group, whether that be religious, social, sexual, what have you, represents the entire group and judge people on their own merits?" while the furry article has mostly comments like "Do ya ever think “man shooting up a furry convention would be cool”? I think about it. A lot." with a lot of people stereotyping that one specific campaign to represent all of furries.
the #notallmen people of kym would probably laugh at the #notallfurry people, and not understand their own hypocrisy.

Rainfurrest is probably the only one that was fully publicized outside of the community due to it being such as disaster. If you want some other examples, here's the video that was done by "Down the Rabbit Hole" (ironically appropriate name)
In middle school my brother had a friend who was obsessed with Tails from the Sonic series. Also a couple years ago my friends and I were invited to a drinking party for a brony convention. I also have a friend who is an admitted furry and he chooses not to associate himself with the community for a reason. Having been in various clubs and conventions it's inevitable that you'll run into a furry.
I don't have problems with furries per se as long as they don't shove it in my face but if they have a negative view amongst many nerd communities in general and it's not entirely unwarranted.

Those are still outliers though. Its like saying gamers are dangerous because of that gamer who shot people at a gaming tournament or because of the countless threats anita sarkeesian got for simply being critical of games or because of cases of gamers live streaming their domestic abuse or saying people who like memes are degenerates because of the christchurch shooter being a huge meme lover or because certain meme websites have Nazi members

1. You used a biological demographic (men) that represents half the globe versus an enthusiast demographic (furries) that represents a small portion of first world countries. The scale of these is drastically different so you should know why people would be more prone to call out generalizations of the former over the latter. You should've stuck with the gamer comparison since that is arguably more comparable in scale as it too is a demographic of enthusiasts.
2. You were the first to make the broad generalization, stating that all those things were how KYM did in black and white act. No "seems to", no "I think", nor "I believe" like previous posts but "it is this". If you're going to claim people are making generalizations it would be wise for you to avoid them yourself.
3. You invoked a 5 year old hashtag/talking point that has little to no relevancy, either to this thread or to memes in general nowadays.

1. scale doesn't matter though. its stereotyping whether its 100 people or 100 million. 2. I'm not saying kym is like this or that, i'm saying you see a lot more hate and stereotyping on kym in furry articles than articles relating more towards the average kym user, men and gamers. 3. it was to explain why the hatred towards furries is more rampant on kym than hatred towards other demographics.

The chill ones that don't ram it down your throat and make it their defining personality are fine. The only exception to this rule is if they are in any way associated with the bestiality subset, that's when I have major concerns for the well-being of living animals.

Most of it's so obscure and hard to find you'd never really see it unless you went out of your way to find it. Unless we're talking about the "furry version of ___" spammers, in which case those are the worst.) and more "the community". The best way I can describe furries as a collective is being stuck in a perpetual highschool, with all the petty drama, narcissism, self centered "identity" bs, stupid cliques, wars over popularity, what outlandish fetishes are "ok" that week and what aren't by decree of "the popular kid", and the "this is the cool table, you can't sit with us" tribalism that comes along with that association.

At the very least this shows there's enough actual furries or closet furries on here helping them trend. Well, that reasoning works only if we assume that downvotes on NSFW images come from a place of actual "hate". While I do not doubt that some people indeed do that (for some odd reason, since you would think them to just ignore a NSFW-tagged image uploaded to a gallery they know contains a thing they dislike), I think that most downvotes on them simply mean "I don't like it", without a stronger connotation beyond what they think of the image itself. This is basically why many body inflation images of yours are downvoted, but nobody actually hates you for it.
The way I see it, downvotes on KYM may imply hate only for hot-button topics like politics and such. Otherwise, it is just a quicker, low-compromise "I dislike/I disagree with" button, much like how likes are the same for "I like/I agree with".
On the topic of furries that this thread is about, I feel like a lot of this applies to it too. A good chunk of KYM users are furries indeed, but an even bigger chunk are probably "meh" about them, which is why NSFW images on furries are commonly trending, but rarely with a crazy amount of upvotes, when you really think about it. Anime girls still usually outdo them for over double the difference, so I am pretty sure KYM feels more strongly about anime than about furries, just in general, enough to make JoJo be always trending, but not much in the way of non-lewd furry media trending unless something new stands out, like when Zootopia was trending for quite a while when it came out.
