The plant then releases the oxygen back into the atmosphere and stores energy within the glucose molecules.In the presence of sunlight, six molecules of carbon dioxide and six molecules of water react to form one glucose molecule and six molecules of oxygen. Water's role is to release oxygen (O) from the water molecule into the atmosphere as oxygen gas.Reactants of photosynthesis:Several simple reactants are needed in the photosynthetic phase. The first needed reactant is water. Water is obtained through the plant's root system. Carbon dioxide is the next required reactant. This gas is absorbed by the plant through its leaves.
