Back in season one, one of the most shocking moments came when Rafe shot Sheriff Peterkin (Adina Porter).

The moment happened when she confronted Rafe and John B (Chase Stokes), telling them she had killed Big John (Charles Halford).

As season two revealed, Big John survived, but Rafe and John B didn’t know it at the time.

Peterkins attempted to arrest Rafe’s father Ward Cameron (Charles Esten), leading Rafe to make a rash and shocking decision.

He immediately shoots Peterkins, doing anything he can to protect his father.

John B, joined by Sarah (Madelyn Cline) had both run away at this point, leading Ward to blame the sheriff’s death on John.

With the entire island now hunting them, John and Sarah managed to make it away before being caught, concluding the season in dramatic style.

With time passing between seasons one and two, many fans were hoping Rafe would get his comeuppance during the second season.

Rafe doesn’t get caught or killed for his actions in season one, with Ward still blaming John for what happened.

Lying to everyone else and himself, it is Ward’s word against John’s, leading to a frustrating stalemate for the two.

Eventually, John is arrested for the crime, but Ward feels some remorse for his actions, leading to him taking the blame for the crime.

However, before he can be arrested and take over John’s cell, he literally blows himself up, ending the saga of murder for good.

But, because this is a show known for its twists, there is reason to believe Ward has simply faked his death and used the explosion to conceal his escape.

For now, Rafe has continued to get away with murder but fans are hoping his luck will run out in season three.

While unconfirmed, season two ended on several cliffhangers, directly setting up a third season.
