Yingkura View Profile View Posts 25 Jun, 2016 @ 1:18pm Does Steam Charge Sales Tax? Hi, I want to buy Universe Sandbox 2 and right now is on Steam Summer Sale at $19.99. I want to buy a $20 Steam wallet card at Walmart and was wondering is Steam charge sales tax. I live in Idaho and the sales tax here is 6%. And also when redeeming the Steam wallet code, will Steam asks for address and phone number because I heard and found out about Steam asking for address and phone number when redeeming a wallet code or buying games with credit cards. I'm just scared if Steam will send something bad or call the phone number. Sorry for asking too much, this is my first time adding money to my Steam account and buying a game off of Steam. Thanks for helping! :) < > Showing 1-15 of 20 comments

Seretti View Profile View Posts 25 Jun, 2016 @ 1:22pm Well, you say that you live in Idaho, so you'll pay the price you see on the store page. #2
Seretti View Profile View Posts 25 Jun, 2016 @ 2:33pm You pay the price you see on the store page.As for providing name and address when purchasing with credit card/gift card, that is just to confirm that it is your card. Valve will not call you or send anything in the mail. #3

Aliquis View Profile View Posts 29 Jun, 2017 @ 11:28pm Why would Steam send bad stuff?Steam have never called me.They do send me mails about games on sale which are on my wishlist but they end that one with informing me how to turn of notifications mails in the future so that's not something one have to live with. #5

boxfetish View Profile View Posts 26 Sep, 2017 @ 8:51pm Just made a purchase in Wisconsin and got charged our state sales tax for the first time. No doubt the fascist wingnuts that control our state government finally bullied Steam into charging it. Less government? I will definitely be buying less games now. GG Valve. Hooch View Profile View Posts 26 Sep, 2017 @ 11:07pm When you are about to purchase a game at checkout, it specifically says:"Tax: Sales tax will be calculated during checkout where applicable"Digital product sales are DIFFERENT than physical product sales. Just because a state charges tax for a physical product doesn't mean it will charge tax from an online, digital purchase. California, Nevada, Florida are some examples, but there are several others. And of course, if your state doesn't have any sales tax, it won't have any for digital purchases either.See this chart:http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1148505608 Last edited by Hooch; 26 Sep, 2017 @ 11:10pm #12

greatmastermario View Profile View Posts 9 Dec, 2017 @ 8:16am AZ has sales tax on digital goods (called the Department of Revenue to confirm), but Steam has never charged me for tax. Now, unless there's somewhere in the fine print stating sales tax is included in the game's cost, I have to pay use tax on all my games that weren't gifts to me. Anyone have confirmation about that? #15 < > Showing 1-15 of 20 comments Per page: 1530 50 All Discussions > Steam Forums > Help and Tips > Topic Details Date Posted: 25 Jun, 2016 @ 1:18pmPosts: 20 Start a New Discussion

If it says no tax, there is no tax. And NEVER put false information when it comes to billing and payment - however, no one is going to show up to your door, that's ridiculous. Also, remove your account name from your post. It should only be known by you. #8

GG Valve. So you're blaming valve because they have a physical presence in the state and thus are forced to pay state sales tax?OOOHKAY LOGIC FAIL #10

Less government? So by your understanding, state sales taxes are something that is there to be not there? What have fascists to do with sale taxes? #11

GG Valve.Wisconsin has a digital product sales tax. That is why you were charged a digital product sales tax.https://www.revenue.wi.gov/Pages/faqs/ise-diggoods.aspxUnder WI law, video games are considered an "additional digital good" thus are taxable. Change your state's laws if you don't like it. Blaming businesses for complying with the law is stupid. Last edited by Hooch; 26 Sep, 2017 @ 11:19pm #13
