20 Foot Giants

In recent years, images purportedly depicting 20 to 30-foot skeletons of giants have circulated on the internet, often accompanied by claims of their discovery near archaeological sites. These sensationalized images have sparked curiosity and speculation, leading many to question whether such findings align with biblical accounts of giants. However, upon closer examination, these claims have been widely discredited as hoaxes and fabrications. In this exploration, we will delve into the alleged existence of 20-foot giant skeletons, examine biblical references to giants, and address the credibility of these claims in light of archaeological and scientific evidence.

Biblical References to Giants

The Bible contains several references to giants, commonly known as Nephilim, Rephaim, or Anakim, among other names. These beings are described as exceptionally tall and powerful individuals, but the exact height mentioned in biblical texts does not reach the exaggerated proportions of 20 to 30 feet claimed in internet hoaxes.

Genesis 6:4 (NKJV): “There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.” This verse from Genesis alludes to the existence of giants in ancient times, particularly before the flood, but it does not specify their exact height or dimensions.

Examining Alleged Discoveries of Giant Skeletons

Various internet sources have circulated images and stories claiming the discovery of giant skeletons, some allegedly measuring 20 to 30 feet in height. However, upon closer scrutiny, these claims have been debunked as hoaxes perpetuated through photo manipulation, misinterpretation of archaeological finds, or deliberate misinformation.

a. Lack of Credible Evidence: Archaeologists and experts in the field of anthropology have not found any substantiated evidence of giant skeletons matching the descriptions circulated on the internet. Most claims of giant skeletons can be traced back to sensationalized stories or doctored images with no basis in reality.

b. Historical Context: It is essential to consider the historical context and scientific plausibility of claims regarding giant skeletons. Human biology and physiology impose limitations on the size and stature of individuals, making the existence of 20-foot giants highly improbable from a scientific standpoint.

Addressing Misinterpretations and Misinformation

The dissemination of false information regarding giant skeletons highlights the importance of critical thinking and discernment when evaluating claims made on the internet. In many cases, these claims prey on sensationalism and exploit public curiosity without regard for factual accuracy.

a. Fact-Checking and Verification: When encountering claims of giant skeletons or other extraordinary discoveries, it is crucial to verify the credibility of sources and corroborate information through reliable sources such as peer-reviewed research, academic publications, or reputable archaeological institutions.

b. Skepticism and Critical Analysis: Maintaining a healthy skepticism and exercising critical analysis can help discern fact from fiction, particularly in the age of digital misinformation and viral hoaxes. Scrutinizing the evidence presented and evaluating the credibility of sources are essential steps in navigating the vast landscape of online information.

c. The Lord teaches His children saying, “test all things, hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). We need to check every story by what the Bible says to determine if it is true or false, whether it be how tall giants could get in ancient times or things more important such as spiritual truths.

Biblical Giants

The Bible refers to giants in the story of David and Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:4-7 (NKJV): “And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span… He had a bronze helmet on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze.”

The story of David and Goliath, one of the most well-known accounts involving giants in the Bible, illustrates the triumph of faith and courage over seemingly insurmountable odds. Goliath’s physical stature symbolizes the formidable challenge facing the Israelites, but David’s trust in God enables him to overcome the giant and emerge victorious.

It is true that there were giants in the land of Canaan (Numbers 13:33), but 20-30 foot skeletons is much larger than the biblical accounts of giants. Such proportions do not fit the biblical description of giants for the Bibles states that Goliath, the giant, was 6 cubits and a span, or 6 1/2 cubits.

There are two general measurements for the Hebrew cubit. Using the shorter one, which is 17.5 inches would be equivalent to 9 1/2 ft. or 2.9 m. Deuteronomy 3:11 talks about another giant, King Og of Bashan. This verse gives the measurements of his bed, which was 9 cubits long and 4 cubits wide. Imagine how big King Og would have to be to fit in a bed just over 13 feet long and just under 6 feet wide! Indeed there were giants in the Bible, they were almost twice as tall as the average American man.

Conclusion

Claims of 20-foot giant skeletons discovered near archaeological sites, while captivating, lack credible evidence and have been widely discredited as hoaxes or misinformation. While the Bible does contain references to giants, their dimensions do not match the exaggerated proportions depicted in internet stories. It is essential to approach such claims with skepticism and critical analysis, relying on verifiable evidence and reputable sources to discern fact from fiction.

Moreover, the significance of giants in biblical narratives transcends physical stature, serving as allegorical representations of spiritual challenges to be overcome through faith and reliance on God’s strength. As discerning individuals, let us exercise caution and discernment when encountering sensationalized claims and remain grounded in the pursuit of truth and accuracy.
