Yogi DeTox tea is a fan fave to get struggling poops poppin’ and keep deuces regular. But before you get your bowels percolating, there are some things to keep in mind about the tea’s cleansing claims.

Here’s everything you need to know about this popular herbal tea.

So will Yogi DeTox tea make me poop?

Yogi DeTox tea boasts ingredients that *can* have a laxative effect to loosen up stool or help stimulate the colon. This may help you drop some dookies.

But drinking this herbal supplement isn’t without potential side effects and it’s not proven to detox your body.

So why does Yogi DeTox tea make you poop?

It’s in the tea, literally. Yogi DeTox tea has a big blend of ingredients. Those that may have a laxative effect includes 💩:

  • Cardamom. This spice has been used as a natural constipation remedy for centuries.
  • Black pepper. An animal study found that a compound called piperine can stimulate bowel movements.
  • Dandelion root. Animal studies suggest dandelion root can help keep your No. 2’s on a regular schedule.
  • Ginger root. High doses of ginger have been found to increase bowel movements. It’s also a great way to relieve nausea.
  • Rhubarb root. Rhubarb contains compounds that can help you poop. This includes anthraquinone glycosides, aloe emodin, and sennosides.

FYI: These studies focused on concentrated amounts of these ingredients. We still need more studies to show how effective they are as a tea.

Does Yogi DeTox tea help constipation?

It might! The laxative ingredients can help get your digestive tract back on track. Another bonus is that it’s not caffeinated so it shouldn’t dehydrate you.

But keep in mind, Yogi DeTox tea is not a colon-cleansing cure-all. There are better and more proven ways to help you go No. 2.

What else does Yogi DeTox tea do?

Yogi DeTox tea’s basic claim is it can cleanse and detox the body.

Detox drinks in general are often marketed as a cleanse. Some also claim they can:

  • support digestion and circulation
  • help you lose weight
  • give you more energy
  • support kidney and liver function
  • promote overall health and wellness

PSA: There’s no actual proof that Yogi DeTox tea can provide any of these potential perks. It’s also not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a way to treat, prevent, or cure any diseases.

Does Yogi DeTox tea actually detox?

Again, there’s no proof this tea can actually “detox” you. And TBH, the whole concept of detoxing is super iffy.

The idea behind a “detox” is to remove impurities from the body. Folks think this can lead to less bloating, healthy organs, weight loss, and clearer skin.

But there’s no scientific evidence that we actually need to detox. Your body is designed to expel toxic substances on its own. (Thanks, liver!)

Yogi DeTox tea side effects

Yogi DeTox tea is probs safe to drink in moderation. But there are some potential risks, especially if you overdo it.

Drug interactions

Detox tea can contain ingredients that might interact with medications. Def talk with your doc about potential drug interactions before you start sipping.

Digestive symptoms

The laxative effect of detox tea can cause digestive discomfort. Common symptoms include:

  • gas💨
  • nausea
  • cramps
  • bloating
  • diarrhea

Liver damage

A 2017 case report found that some of the ingredients in Yogi DeTox tea can lead to liver damage. Possible culprits included:

  • rhubarb root
  • juniper berry
  • skullcap root
  • black pepper
  • gardenia root
  • cinnamon bark

Stick to the good stuff

The FDA doesn’t strictly monitor herbal supplements like it does medications. So certain detox teas could contain contaminants and toxins that might lead to negative side effects. Always opt for brands that have been third-party tested for purity and quality.

The good news? Yogi DeTox tea is certified organic by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and has a stamp of approval from the Non-GMO Project. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safe.

Other ways to help you poop

Detox teas aren’t the only (or the best) way to help you drop a deuce. Here are some top tips to help your stool make its grand poo debut.

  • Hydrate. Keep your fluid levels on fleek. It can help stave off constipation and can make your poop easier to pass.
  • Work it out. A quick cardio sesh might get things moving in your digestive tract.
  • Caffeine. A bit of caffeine can stimulate a bowel movement. Just remember not to go threat level midnight with the coffee. Caffeine can also dehydrate you, which can make constipation worse.
  • Try a laxative. Laxatives can help the Hershey River flow again. They come in pill, liquid, or suppository form but you should only take these occasionally or for short periods of time.
  • Fuel up on fiber. Make sure you’re getting enough fiber in your diet. Veggies, whole grains, and beans are all top-notch choices.
  • Take a fiber supplement. An over-the-counter (OTC) fiber supplement can help bulk up your stool 💪. This might be useful if you’re on a low fiber diet like keto. Just be sure you ask your doc before taking a new supplement.

Bottom line on poop teas?

Yogi DeTox tea is a popular herbal tea that might help stimulate bowel movements. But there are def better ways to help you poop.

Also, there’s little science to back the idea that a tea can “detox” you. Your body can cleanse itself of toxins and other substances on its own.
