When it comes to historical dramas and the lives of the British rich, Downton Abbey remains the best production and one of the most acclaimed series by both audiences and critics, so many are wondering what's next for the series after its last two movies.

Therefore, here we tell you everything that is known so far about the future of Downton Abbey and if there will be a season 7, as expected by all fans.

What is the plot of Downton Abbey?

The series is set between 1912 and 1926 and depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in the post-Edwardian era, with their stories having the fictional Downton Abbey estate in Yorkshire as their main location.

During the series, reference is made to various historical events that occurred during that era, such as the sinking of the Titanic, the outbreak of World War I, the Irish War of Independence, the 1923 British general election, as well as the rise of the working class during the interwar period and hints at the eventual decline of the British aristocracy.

How many seasons of Downton Abbey are there?

So far, six seasons of the Downton Abbey series have been released, with the first season's seven episodes aired in 2010, followed by five more seasons (each of eight episodes and a special) that aired between 2011 and 2015.

How many Downton Abbey movies have been released?

There are two films based on the series, 2019's Downton Abbey and 2022's Downton Abbey: A New Era. The former was released in September 2019 and the latter was released in the UK on 29 April 2022, while in the US it was released on 20 May.
