Synopsis
With the ambitious Ryuusui Nanami on board, Senkuu Ishigami and his team are almost ready to sail the seas and reach the other side of the world—where the bizarre green light that petrified humanity originated. Thanks to the revival of a skillful chef, enough food is being prepared for the entire crew, and the incredible reinvention of the GPS promises to ensure safety on the open sea. Preparations for the upcoming journey progress swimmingly until Senkuu receives an eerie message from a mysterious source. More driven than ever, the scientist sets out to explore the new world and discover what it can offer for his scientific cause. Though the uncharted territories may hide unkind surprises, Senkuu, with a little help from science, is ready to take on any challenge. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Write review 23 Recommended 8 Mixed Feelings 2 Not Recommended All reviews (33) Nov 25, 2025 AshesOnFire19 Recommended dr. stone has this weird but cool art style that instantly stands out. the characters look a bit exaggerated in a fun way. the animation itself isn’t super smooth, it uses a lot of action lines instead of fluid movement, but i didn’t mind it too much. not a lot talk about characters nothing really interesting happens to any of them maybe bcuz of lack a antagonist but ryusui adds a new flavour to the cast and keeps things lively, so I was definitely into that. The humour tho? yea… that didn’t land for me at all. i didn’t even smile once. but even then, i still ...enjoyed how the show is weirdly wholesome about humanity. it has this refreshing positivity that says humans can build anything if they try and i love that nerdy enthusiasm for science. that’s honestly the show’s biggest charm for me. I didn’t go into this shwo expecting deep themes or emotional character arcs and good thing i didn’t, bcuz there aren’t many. most characters barely change and there’s not much personal development happening. but for me, personal enjoyment matters and i still had fun watching it as a light, energetic science adventure. Anything that fit the plot just kinda happens spontaneously, despite everything up until this point being a lengthy explanation or excursion to obtain. With death meaning nothing in this show, nor stakes ever meaning anything up until this point. You know that the main charecters will prevail no matter what happens. This type of writing is extremely uninteresting and gets boring. Each season more and more charecters get introduced and each of them remain one dimensional, which pains me each time more and more. The memory plot device of recalling everything perfectly felt a ...bit too hand fed and really made things feel un earned. New world is really devoid of the 'magic' that the first season was... and at this point we just watch because we are binging the junk food. Reviewer’s Rating: 5 What did you think of this review? But well, briefly, I want to explain what the first season was and why I think this way: At the time, when the first season came out, I remember that only the idea of the series caught my attention: humanity petrified and practically returned to the Stone Age, and the protagonist would have to save humanity by depetrifying everyone. It was a spectacular idea that immediately grabbed my attention, and it's true, I personally love the first season and recommend it to everyone. It feels like a breath of ...fresh air in the shonen genre. It's interesting to see how the protagonist is rebuilding humanity from scratch. Apart from all this, the pace of the series never felt slow or too fast to me. The good OST and memorable moments like Christmas or when Senku climbed on top of the to chrome's house and illuminated it, or even when they made the cell phone—wow, that moment blew my mind. Not only making a cell phone in the middle of the jungle but also the whole process to achieve it. It was the only series that made me think about how much effort it takes to accomplish something, to what extent humanity has gone. And it also provides you with information that, on more than one occasion, left me thinking, "How interesting, let's see how they make this thing." (Well, I watched it a while ago, and it's true that not all explanations were interesting, and sometimes they explained things like making soap, but you get my point.) In summary, I've gone on too long, but the first season is fantastic. It has a good pace, a good OST, tremendous moments, few but well-developed characters like Senku, Kohaku, and Gen, among others that I may have missed, and they know how to handle the moments. I would really like to talk more about Senku and Kohaku, who I think are great characters, but I would go on for too long. My point is that what they tell me is INTERESTING. As you can see, I loved the first season, and unfortunately, the next season (Stone Wars) seemed quite average to me. At first, I liked the idea of two factions with different opinions and perspectives fighting each other, but in the end, it felt too much like a typical shonen, and that's not what I was looking for. I wanted it to return to being more like the first season, and in this season (New World), they leave all of that aside, and I said, "Well, NOW it's going to get good. It's going to be like the first season, right?" Well, now, after this long introduction, I'm going to comment on each episode and what I thought of this season: The first three episodes were entertaining, despite their illogical aspects. The second episode ends with Senku referencing the famous photo of Albert Einstein, and that moment was good, to be honest. But that's not relevant. I want to comment on two things from this episode. First, I have no idea how the hell he made a camera. He explained it to me and everything, but I said, "Well, whatever you say, Senku." And the second thing is when the girl approaches him and asks for a favor in exchange for nitroglycerin liquid (which she had). I thought the girl wanted a dildo, to be honest, the way she asked for it. I can't be the only one who thought that, please. Aside from those points, the exploration chapters with the cameras were not significant. Chapter three liked me at the time, but now that I finished the series, it left me indifferent. It was quite obvious that they were going to leave the subject aside, but I had faith that they would work more on the petrification theme. It was the first time they touched on it seriously with that cliffhanger at the end of the chapter. Except for that scene, the chapter was quite relaxed and entertaining, disregarding the ridiculous things that happened, like the boar pretending to be a friend and the chef who always seemed to have everything prepared. It felt like watching a childish cartoon where there aren't many explanations for the events, just for the sake of comedy. But honestly, it seems quite ridiculous to me (I didn't investigate much about it, but maybe it's because it's aired on Cartoon Network and they add these elements. I'm not sure). From chapter 4 onwards, I realized that this season was turning out to be very bad, to be honest. Saying that Senku is a walking Wikipedia falls short; he's a walking internet. The guy is not just a scientist; he is whatever the plot needs him to be: an engineer (in all branches and variations), a physicist, a mathematician, a DOCTOR (who even does medicine out of thin air on the ship in chapter 6, now he's a doctor), a nurse, WHATEVER THE PLOT NEEDS, Senku will be it. Calling him a walking Wikipedia falls way too short; he's a walking internet. This was somewhat true in the first season, but with a bit of chemistry and scientific stuff. But in this season, THEY WENT OVERBOARD. Senku is just too much. Going from one chapter to another, advancing to the industrial era as if it were nothing, pulling inventions out of nowhere. Senku, besides that, every two minutes of the chapter, they say, "Look, another discovery," and add some comedy. I don't know, it felt like they were speedrunning through the story. Where did the mystery from the previous season go? What about the interactions with the characters or the step-by-step discovery process, where you see them fail 500 times but keep trying, like in the first season? Here, there's a discovery every 3 minutes, and in one chapter, we jump to the industrial era. And if you blink for two seconds, we're already in the modern era. God, it's disgusting. In chapters 5 and 6, I officially realized that the adaptation was being bad. Everything felt rushed, especially the backstory of the bald guy on the ship (I don't remember his name) and the CGI ship. God, it looked horrible, THE SHIP, how ugly it was. And supposedly, it's something that appears briefly. What would it cost to animate it properly, even if it's just for the presentation? Speaking of the ship, it's an excuse to get rid of all the secondary characters and leave only the main characters on the ship. THANKFULLY, THIS HAPPENS because there were still too many secondary characters. In the first season, there were only a few standout characters, and there was time to develop them properly. In this season, it's like this: a character appears, says two sentences (maybe accompanied by a joke or not), and that's it. It's like they're showing you, "DON'T FORGET THIS CHARACTER. Look how funny it is," and then quickly move on to the next invention. We have 11 episodes, and we're not getting anywhere. WE'RE NOT GETTING ANYWHERE, COME ON. I'll comment on something positive while I'm at it. The ending song is awesome. At first, I didn't pay much attention to it, but after hearing it so many times, it's one of the best things about this season. The opening song isn't that bad either. Chapter 7: I honestly didn't expect someone to have a tool to petrify people, and it leaves me with several questions. But to be honest, at this point, I was quite disconnected from the series. They arrive on an island and talk to a girl from the island they encounter (Amaryllis). Coincidentally, they speak the same language despite crossing the sea, and they are literally 3000 years behind civilization. But hey, they speak fluent Japanese, of course. Speaking of the girl, she's completely expressionless. Poor thing, she's with people who come from another island, talking about the secret of petrification and wanting to steal that tool. Senku says a lot of things that she should have no knowledge of, and at no point does she show surprise or, at most, distrust. It's like she already trusts them right away. My god. Additionally, the island follows the same modus operandi as Senku's island, with the same tribe that seems to emerge in the same way as Senku's island. They even have the same BRIDGE! The characters even look alike. God, build something different, at least. There's the palace, which seems different, and the tribe that appears to be different. You could have different aesthetics for the tribe, make it more related to another religion with different customs. Make it more attractive. It seemed like poor writing to me. But the worst part is not this; the chapter ends with Senku pulling tear gas out of his back to use against the guards. He just pulls it out of thin air, like the microscope, which they explain is a recycled invention from one of the 500 inventions in chapter 3. But for me, there's no excuse. How is he so prepared? It's like he can predict the future, Senku. Horrible, really. Chapter 8 was terrible, not only because of what I mentioned earlier, that I was completely disconnected from the series, but also because the pace of the series was bad. The way the characters interacted and acted was horrible. Amaryllis doesn't ask anything at any point, NOTHING, not even where they got that gas or what Senku is talking about humanity and what he says. The rest of the chapter is humor... they need to make the other girl more feminine, and I don't know, I'm falling asleep. There's a lot of humor, but I didn't laugh in any scene. But well, humor was never the strong point of Dr. Stone, not even in the first season that they talk so much about. The thing is, they need the laboratory that's on the ship, which is taken by the island people, with heavy surveillance all over the ship. What does one of Senku's genius crew members, Ginro (remember, he was hiding because he didn't get petrified as he was outside the range of that petrification tool), do? HE JUMPS OUT OF THE BARREL and starts jumping with his arms open in the middle of all the surveillance, "HEY, I'M HERE!" he seems to shout, and then he hides because someone sees him. Of course, it's obvious, AND HE GETS AWAY WITH IT. I can't believe it. What am I watching? I mentioned it earlier, but this is very childish, like a cartoon for kids, with bad writing. And those bad guys who took over the ship are the typical generic bad guys from the tribe. I'm sure that at the end of the series, there might be some kind of evangelization or something. God, horrible chapter. Chapter 9 and 10: Equally horrible, both of them. At this point, I considered dropping the series, but then I realized I only had two more episodes left, so I made a final effort to finish it. In this chapter, they recover the laboratory. How do they do it? Suika infiltrates and manages the laboratory, being practically blind, and out of nowhere, she finds time to go to Ginro and take him away. And get this, NO ONE NOTICES. Nothing makes sense in this episode. It was quite unbearable, very childish, and predictable in many instances. Horrible chapter. The last episode... well, it was a finale. It sums up everything I said before. I lost all interest in what was happening. The character who appeared in the third chapter, which seemed like it would bring answers about the petrification, never showed up again. Instead, this horrible plot appeared that I didn't like at all. This season is the worst of Dr. Stone by a wide margin. If they announce another season, I won't be following it. I've completely lost interest in a series that I used to enjoy in the beginning 5/10 *Esta reseña CONTIENE SPOILERS* Reseña en inglés y español Así es, esta tercera temporada es la peor de Dr. Stone. 5/10 Reviewer’s Rating: 5 What did you think of this review?
