Evolved from: Dratini (level 30) Evolves into: Dragonite (at level 55)
Locations: Dratini evolves at level 30 and turns into Dragonair. Yellow owners can also fish for Dragonair in the Safari Zone.
This Pokémon naturally learns the following techniques:
LV 01 - WrapLV 01 - LeerLV 10 - Thunder Wave LV 20 - AgilityLV 35 - Slam LV 45 - Dragon RageLV 55 - Hyper Beam
Tips: Dragonair is only one of two pure Dragon Pokemon in the game (the other being its predecessor, Dratini). If you think they're underrepresented, then consider that there is only one single Dragon-type attack in Blue/Red and Yellow -- Dragon Rage -- and it isn't really that great. Even more confusing is the fact that Dragon-type attacks are only really strong against fellow Dragons. So unlike many of the other Pokemon types, Dragons don't really profit from their type in the offense department. But being a Dragon does have its advantages. For one, Dragonair and Dragonite have very powerful stats. But more importantly, Dragon Pokemon have very strong defenses against the four most prolific attack types around: Fire, Water, Electric and Grass. This unusual resilience against the most popular Pokemon types in the game makes Dragon Pokemon a great trump in player vs. player battles -- and makes training Dragonair an essential task for any self-respecting Pokemon trainer. Try to evolve Dratini and Dragonair as late as possible as Dragonite learns its later attack 5-10 levels later than Dratini.

Like Dratini, Dragonair is a bit on the slow side, so it's important that trainers keep the Thunder Wave move that it learned at level 10. It's always a great idea to start out a battle with a quick Thunder Wave paralysis attack. Not only does it frequently prevent your opponent from attacking, it also turns the tables and guarantees that your Dragonair attacks first. Here are a couple of other moves that help make Dragonair be a powerful Pokemon in battle: Hyper Beam (two-part attack, but great as a finisher), Blizzard, Thunder, Fire Blast, Surf, Strength or Rest.

As stated above, Dragonair defends well against Fire, Water, Electric and Grass types. If your Dragonair knows a wide variety of attacks, you can use it as a wild card against any of the four. Dragon Pokemon only fear two things: Dragon and Ice attacks. Since Dragon Rage is the only Dragon type attack in Blue/Red and Yellow, it's the Ice types you really need to worry about. When fighting against Dragonair, use status-changing techniques to paralyze it or put it to sleep, then follow up with Blizzard hits until you deplete its massive amount of HP.

This Pokémon can learn the following HMs and TMs:

Origin: Dragonair's name seems to have been inspired by the words dragon and air. Since it's not really a Flying Pokemon, the name choice could also have other origins (such as the "aire" ending for soldier classes -- which goes well with Dratini's old "Dragoon" moniker). Dragonair's original name was Dragyn.
