Kids will enjoy this simple step by step lesson for learning how to draw a pirate ship. This easy pirate ship instruction guide is perfect for fairly young kids looking to learn how to draw.

All drawing steps are included here which make it fun and simple to follow! Expect this drawing to take about 30 minutes, but the art-making process may actually take longer if a background is created in addition to the subject matter.

Materials

• Pencil
• Drawing Paper
• Crayons or Colored Pencils
• Black Marker (optional)

This lesson will instruct you how to draw a pirate ship. We will pay attention to the shapes of each part and types of contours created ensuring that the artwork looks convincing.

Time Needed: 30 minutes

1. Outline The Hull

   

   First, draw a line curving upward. Extend the right end of the curve to a thin elongated shape to form the bowsprit. Next, extend the left end of the curve to form the stern of the ship as shown. Then, draw a smaller curve to connect the ends of the stern and the bowsprit.

2. Add Portholes

   

   Let’s add three portholes on the pirate ship! To draw a porthole, create a circle within a circle.

3. Draw The Hull Details

   

   First draw a line following the shape of the top of the hull. Next, draw horizontal lines slightly curving upward. Now it looks like the wooden planks used to form this boat’s hull.

4. Attach The Masts

   

   Attach the masts of the pirate ship by drawing three long thin rectangles.

5. Draw The Booms

   

   Let’s draw the horizontal poles attached to the masts called booms. Create three booms on each mast as shown.

6. Add The Sails

   

   Add the sails by making two rectangular shapes on each mast as shown.

7. Create The Crow’s Nest

   

   Let’s create the crow’s nest by first drawing an oval shape. Next, draw two diagonal lines on each side of the oval. Now, make a downward curve connecting the two diagonal lines.

8. Draw The Jolly Roger

   

   Draw the jolly roger by first forming the skull. Next, add two ovals and a small triangle to draw the eye sockets and the hollow part of the nose. Then, create the crossbones behind the skull as shown.

9. Complete The Pirate Ship Drawing

   

   Let’s complete the pirate ship drawing by first coloring the hull with a brown crayon. Now, color the outer part of the porthole and the lining on the hull with a yellow crayon. Next, shade each mast and boom with an orange crayon. Don’t forget to color the crow’s nest with orange too! Finally, fill in the sails with a purple crayon and the jolly roger with a white crayon.
