Legend of KorraDreamWorks Teaming with Korra Animation Studio for New TV Series

Animation Company announces four-year contract with Studio Mir.

Max Nicholson AvatarBy Max NicholsonUpdated: May 1, 2017 3:47pm UTC0 commentsDreamWorks Animation has inked a four-year deal with South Korea-based animation firm Studio Mir -- known for their work on Nickelodeon's The Legend of Korra -- and is planning to develop four new animated series with the company.

IGN's The Legend of Korra: Book Three Review

Variety reports that each show will be 2D-animated (same as Korra) and consist of 78 episodes. Interestingly, the two companies will co-develop and co-produce the projects, though financing and distribution are still uncertain. "The contract between DreamWorks and Studio Mir is a landmark in that it is a partnership of equals," said Yoo Jae-myung, founder and CEO of Mir. "This contract is a solid opportunity for the entire Korean animation industry to create a better workforce and infrastructure in the field of animation."While Korean companies have often been subcontractors on animated projects, it's rare that they have equal ownership of the IPs, as is the case here.
