What Types of Mangoes can be dehydrated?

You can use ripe, fresh mangoes or frozen mangoes and any variety of mangoes can be dehydrated. Some popular types include Alphonso: known for its rich, creamy texture and intense sweetness and Kent: sweet and juicy with a smooth, non-fibrous texture.

Ingredients

Listed below are all the ingredients you will need:

  • 2 mangos
2 filipino mangos on a white table

Instructions

Peel the mangos and thinly slice them on a cutting board. If you want thicker slices, feel free to do so – just be aware that they will take longer to dehydrate. Then, arrange the sliced mangos on the dehydrator tray or sheet, set the dehydrator to the “Fruit” setting, and allow it to dehydrate until desired consistency. Refer to the recipe card for the prep time and total time.

Substitutions

  • Texture: For a chewy texture, use your sharp knife to slice the mangoes a bit thicker.
  • Air Fryer: Instead of a dehydrator, try an air fryer with the drying setting to dry the mango faster.
  • Tropical Flavor: Try other tropical fruits like pineapple or papaya instead of mango for a new flavor.

Variations

  • Varieties: Try out various kinds of mangoes to find different tropical tastes and textures.
  • Dehydrated Strawberries: Make your snack mix more exciting by putting dried strawberries with the mango for more flavor and color.
  • Smaller Pieces: Cut the mango into smaller pieces for easy-to-eat snacks.

Storage

  • Store the dried mangoes in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, as exposure to light can cause them to degrade faster. By following these storage guidelines, your dried mangoes can stay delicious and retain their quality for several months.

Top Tip

Keep your dried mango fresh for longer by using a vacuum seal them or putting them in airtight containers like mason jars in a cool, dark spot.
