Dying Light 2 is shaping up to be one of 2022’s biggest games, expanding upon the original’s foundation both in terms of gameplay and worldbuilding.

As is often the case with titles that have an online component, questions regarding crossplay and just how far cross-platform support extends at launch often pop up.

Dying Light 2 crossplay would be a welcome addition to the open-world title, allowing players to help each other regardless of the platform they’re playing on. More and more games include the feature and we now know how Techland will approach implementing it.

Why doesn't Dying Light 2 support Crossplay?

Although it’s one of the features requested most often in online discussions, Dying Light 2 cross-platform support was unavailable when the game launched on the 4th of February 2022, and it’s still unavailable as of the 16th of August, 2024.

Lead Game Designer Tymon Smektala confirmed that this would be the case in an interview with Wccftech.

“So, no, this will not be implemented at the start but we are looking very closely at it and we hopefully will be able to activate/introduce it later during the life of the game,” Smektala said.

The lack of Dying Light 2 crossplay at launch means you’ll only be able to play alongside players using the same platform. PlayStation 5 users can play with PlayStation 4 players, for example.

It’s been a long time, but as the years go on, it’s becoming increasingly more likely that crossplay won’t be supported in Dying Light 2.

Dying Light 2 is slated to launch on February 4, 2022 and headed to PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
