Easter Season

- What is the Easter Season?
  The Easter season is fifty days from the Sunday of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ to Pentecost Sunday. The first eight days of the Easter season make up the Octave of Easter and are celebrated as solemnities of the Lord. It is a way of prolonging the joy of the initial day. In a sense, every day of the Octave is like a little Sunday.
  
  During the Easter season the Paschal Candle, a symbol of the presence of the Risen Christ among the people of God, remains in the sanctuary near the Altar or Ambo until Pentecost Sunday. An overview of the liturgical season known as Easter which is represented by the liturgical color white — the color of light, a symbol of joy, purity and innocence (absolute or restored).
- The Easter Vigil is the "Mother of All Vigils." Easter Sunday, then, is the greatest of all Sundays, and Easter Time is the most important of all liturgical times. Easter is the celebration of the Lord's Resurrection from the dead, culminating in his Ascension to the Father and sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church on Pentecost. There are 50 days of Easter from the first Sunday of the Resurrection to Pentecost Sunday. It is characterized, above all, by the joy of glorified life and the victory over death, expressed most fully in the great resounding cry of the Christian: Alleluia! All faith flows from faith in the resurrection:
  "If Christ has not been raised, then empty is our preaching; empty, too, is your faith." (1 Corinthians 15: 14) "What you sow is not brought to life unless it dies. And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel of wheat, perhaps, or of some other kind;…So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown corruptible; it is raised incorruptible. It is sown dishonorable; it is raised glorious. It is sown weak; it is raised powerful. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual one. So, too, it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living being," the last Adam a life-giving spirit. But the spiritual was not first; rather the natural and then the spiritual. The first man was from the earth, earthly; the second man, from heaven. As was the earthly one, so also are the earthly, and as is the heavenly one, so also are the heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthly one, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly one. (1 Corintians 15: 36-37, 42-49).
- - Easter Season - Lectio Divina
- Lent Lent is the forty day period before Easter, excluding Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday, up to the Mass of the Lord's Supper.
- Sacred Paschal Triduum The Sacred Paschal Triduum is the three high holy days before Easter, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
- Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord Easter is the celebration of Christ's Resurrection from the dead, culminating in his Ascension to the Father and sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. It is celebrated on Sunday and is the beginning of the Easter Season of the liturgical year.
- Sunday of the Divine Mercy On this Sunday after Easter (Second Sunday of Easter), we contemplate the fullness of the Paschal Mystery—Christ’s Passion, death, and Resurrection. The basis of the whole Easter Mystery is the merciful love of God.
- Ascension of the Lord The Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ occurred forty days after the Resurrection of the Lord on Easter Sunday. At His Ascension, the Lord Jesus ascended Body and Soul into heaven.
- Pentecost Sunday Pentecost occurred fifty days after the Resurrection of the Lord. On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit transformed fearful apostles into courageous witnesses to Christ and to baptize those who believed.
