How to Draw a Football

This tutorial shows exactly how to draw a football with some important details added. Most students are familiar with the basic shape of a football, but they might get stumped when getting ready to add the finishing details. The white stripes on the ends and the stitch lines in the middle are important and will go a long way in making a much more realistic looking football. Drawing things like a football, basketball or baseball is a great idea for students elementary school. Most are already familiar with what they look like, they just need help in learning how to turn a flat shape into something more dimensional. Well-placed seam lines, stitch lines and color lines can make all the difference in the world.

Materials

Colored Pencils or Crayons

A larger pack will offer more color choices.

Sharpie Markers Black

A permanent marker will give you a dark black color.

Pencils

Drawing Paper

Directions

Time needed: 45 minutes

Football Drawing Step by Step

1. Draw the top half of the football.

   

2. Finish the bottom half of the football.

   

3. Add the two curved seam lines inside.

   

4. Center a skinny shape on the top, erase inside.

   

5. Draw four overlapping “stitch” lines on the left.

   

6. Draw four overlapping “stitch” lines on the right.

   

7. Erase inside and add matching curve lines.

   

8. Draw a grass line or another background.

   

9. Trace with a marker and color.
