Graduation Cap Drawing

This “How to draw a Graduation Cap” tutorial features two versions. The different points of view, one looking up and one looking down, show just how much dimension can be implied by drawing these two simple overlapping shapes. Students that would like an even more realistic look could add shadows to the sides and underneath what is called the mortarboard. The graduation hat has changed a lot over the years but is believed to have developed from a type of hat worn many centuries ago by Roman Catholic clergy. Today in the US, the cap is a familiar symbol of graduation. The tassel usually hangs on one side until students receive their diploma. Then it’s flipped to the other to show they are finished with that stage of their education.
