Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Ditch the classic cuts for a creative, decorative watermelon cutting hack that's also incredibly simple and fast.
- Perfect size for small hands!
- Sticks are the easiest way for kids to eat watermelon without getting super sticky because the watermelon rind doubles as a handle!
- Don't use popsicle sticks, which means you won't be picking them up off the ground!
- Can be arranged in different ways, from on a platter fancy for the party to just out of a container for a picnic. So much better than watermelon wedges!
- No melon baller or cookie cutter is needed! Just a large cutting board and a sharp knife!
Ingredient Notes
- A seedless watermelon is best.
- A cold watermelon does work better than one that's been sitting at room temperature.
- A fresh watermelon works better because older watermelon flesh tends to fall apart in a crumbly way no matter how you cut it.
- You can use this method to cut mini watermelons just as well as large watermelons.
- If a whole watermelon is too much, you can use these easy steps on a half or quarter-cut watermelon, too!

Step-by-Step Photos and Instructions
- Wash or wipe off the outside of the melon to remove any dirt.
- Cut the melon in half.
- Place it cut side down on a cutting board.
- Cut the edges off all 4 sides.

- Cut the watermelon into vertical 1-inch slices.

- Turn the melon and cut new slices perpendicular or in the opposite direction to the original slices, creating squares.
- Lift the sticks of the watermelon out by the green squares!
- Store in an airtight container!
- Leftover sticks can easily be cut into watermelon cubes and used in fruit salads later!
